¹⁵ They are worthless, a work of delusion;
    at the time of their punishment they shall perish.

²² Can any idols of the nations bring rain,
    or can the heavens give showers?
Is it not you, O Lord our God?
    We set our hope on you,
    for it is you who do all this.^(A)

²⁴ You, indeed, are nothing,
    and your work is nothing at all;
    whoever chooses you is an abomination.^(A)

¹⁸ They are worthless, a work of delusion;

⁸ Those who worship vain idols
    forsake their true loyalty.^(A)

¹⁹ Listen! The cry of the daughter of my people
    from far and wide in the land:
“Is the Lord not in Zion?
    Is her King not in her?”
(“Why have they provoked me to anger with their images,
    with their foreign idols?”)^(A)

¹² They acted shamefully; they committed abomination,
    yet they were not at all ashamed;
    they did not know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
    at the time when I punish them, they shall be overthrown,
            says the Lord.^(A)

¹⁸ The idols shall utterly pass away.^(A)
19 Enter the caves of the rocks
    and the holes of the ground,
from the terror of the Lord
    and from the glory of his majesty,
    when he rises to terrify the earth.^(B)
20 On that day people will throw away
    to the moles and to the bats
their idols of silver and their idols of gold,
    which they made for themselves to worship,^(C)
21 to enter the caverns of the rocks
    and the clefts in the crags,
from the terror of the Lord
    and from the glory of his majesty,
    when he rises to terrify the earth.^(D)
