Jeremiah Called to Be a Priest

1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were ^(A)in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

³ the word of the Lord came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the ^[a]Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and ^(A)the hand of the Lord was upon him there.

⁷ ‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field which is in Anathoth, for the ^(A)right of redemption is yours to buy it.” ’ ⁸ Then Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. ⁹ So I bought the field from Hanamel, the son of my uncle who was in Anathoth, and ^(B)weighed out to him the money—seventeen shekels of silver.

²¹ “Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of ^(A)Anathoth who seek your life, saying, ^(B)‘Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, lest you die by our hand’—

²¹ to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of ^(A)Jeremiah, until the land ^(B)had enjoyed her Sabbaths. As long as she lay desolate ^(C)she kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

⁶⁰ And from the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its common-lands, ^[a]Alemeth with its common-lands, and Anathoth with its common-lands. All their cities among their families were thirteen.

Amaziah’s Complaint

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the ^(A)priest of ^(B)Bethel sent to ^(C)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to ^[a]bear all his words.

1 The words of Amos, who was among the ^(A)sheepbreeders of ^(B)Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of ^(C)Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of ^(D)Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the ^(E)earthquake.
