⁴³ Her cities have become a horror,
    ^(A)a land of drought and a desert,
^(B)a land in which no one dwells,
    and through which no son of man passes.

⁶ They did not say, ^(A)‘Where is the Lord
    who brought us up from the land of Egypt,
who led us ^(B)in the wilderness,
    in a land of deserts and pits,
in a land of drought and deep darkness,
    in a land that none passes through,
    where no man dwells?’

^20 (A)It will never be inhabited
    or lived in for all generations;
no ^(B)Arab will pitch his tent there;
    no ^(C)shepherds will make their flocks lie down there.

^29 (A)The land trembles and writhes in pain,
    ^(B)for the Lord's purposes against Babylon stand,
to make the land of Babylon a desolation,
    without inhabitant.
