    the alarm of war.
20 (B)Crash follows hard on crash;
    the whole land is laid waste.
(C)Suddenly my tents are laid waste,
    my curtains in a moment.
21 How long must I see the standard
    and hear the sound of the trumpet?

  1. Jeremiah 51:54 Or Chaldeans

A stern vision is told to me;
    (A)the traitor betrays,
    and the destroyer destroys.
Go up, O (B)Elam;
    lay siege, O (C)Media;
all the (D)sighing she has caused
    I bring to an end.
Therefore my loins are filled with anguish;
    (E)pangs have seized me,
    like the pangs of a woman in labor;
I am bowed down so that I cannot hear;
    I am dismayed so that I cannot see.
My heart staggers; horror has appalled me;
    (F)the twilight I longed for
    has been turned for me into trembling.
