8 Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: “Because you have not listened to my words, 9 I will summon(E) all the peoples of the north(F) and my servant(G) Nebuchadnezzar(H) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy[a](I) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,(J) and an everlasting ruin.(K) 10 I will banish from them the sounds(L) of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom,(M) the sound of millstones(N) and the light of the lamp.(O) 11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,(P) and these nations will serve(Q) the king of Babylon seventy years.(R)
12 “But when the seventy years(S) are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon(T) and his nation, the land of the Babylonians,[b] for their guilt,” declares the Lord, “and will make it desolate(U) forever. 13 I will bring on that land all the things I have spoken against it, all that are written(V) in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations. 14 They themselves will be enslaved(W) by many nations(X) and great kings; I will repay(Y) them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”
The Cup of God’s Wrath
15 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup(Z) filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send(AA) you drink it. 16 When they drink(AB) it, they will stagger(AC) and go mad(AD) because of the sword(AE) I will send among them.”
17 So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent(AF) me drink it: 18 Jerusalem(AG) and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin(AH) and an object of horror and scorn,(AI) a curse[c](AJ)—as they are today;(AK) 19 Pharaoh king(AL) of Egypt,(AM) his attendants, his officials and all his people, 20 and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz;(AN) all the kings of the Philistines(AO) (those of Ashkelon,(AP) Gaza,(AQ) Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod); 21 Edom,(AR) Moab(AS) and Ammon;(AT) 22 all the kings of Tyre(AU) and Sidon;(AV) the kings of the coastlands(AW) across the sea; 23 Dedan,(AX) Tema,(AY) Buz(AZ) and all who are in distant places[d];(BA) 24 all the kings of Arabia(BB) and all the kings of the foreign people(BC) who live in the wilderness; 25 all the kings of Zimri,(BD) Elam(BE) and Media;(BF) 26 and all the kings of the north,(BG) near and far, one after the other—all the kingdoms(BH) on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak[e](BI) will drink it too.

10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.
11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.
14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
15 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
17 Then took I the cup at the Lord's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the Lord had sent me:
18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;
