Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of (A)Tyre, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom,
And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.
10 But I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre,
Which shall devour its palaces.”

11 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of (B)Edom, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he pursued his (C)brother with the sword,
And cast off all pity;
His anger tore perpetually,
And he kept his wrath forever.
12 But (D)I will send a fire upon Teman,
Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says the Lord:

“For three transgressions of (E)the people of Ammon, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they ripped open the women with child in Gilead,
That they might enlarge their territory.
14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of (F)Rabbah,
And it shall devour its palaces,
(G)Amid shouting in the day of battle,
And a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.
15 (H)Their king shall go into captivity,
He and his princes together,”
Says the Lord.

Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:

(I)“For three transgressions of Moab, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he (J)burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.
But I will send a fire upon Moab,
And it shall devour the palaces of (K)Kerioth;
Moab shall die with tumult,
With shouting and trumpet sound.
And I will cut off (L)the judge from its midst,
And slay all its princes with him,”
Says the Lord.

This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Tyre,(A)
    even for four, I will not relent.(B)
Because she sold whole communities of captives to Edom,
    disregarding a treaty of brotherhood,(C)
10 I will send fire on the walls of Tyre
    that will consume her fortresses.(D)

11 This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Edom,(E)
    even for four, I will not relent.
Because he pursued his brother with a sword(F)
    and slaughtered the women of the land,
because his anger raged continually
    and his fury flamed unchecked,(G)
12 I will send fire on Teman(H)
    that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.(I)

13 This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Ammon,(J)
    even for four, I will not relent.
Because he ripped open the pregnant women(K) of Gilead
    in order to extend his borders,
14 I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah(L)
    that will consume(M) her fortresses
amid war cries(N) on the day of battle,
    amid violent winds(O) on a stormy day.
15 Her king[a] will go into exile,
    he and his officials together,(P)
says the Lord.(Q)

This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Moab,(R)
    even for four, I will not relent.
Because he burned to ashes(S)
    the bones of Edom’s king,
I will send fire on Moab
    that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth.[b](T)
Moab will go down in great tumult
    amid war cries(U) and the blast of the trumpet.(V)
I will destroy her ruler(W)
    and kill all her officials with him,”(X)
says the Lord.(Y)

Proclamation Against Ammon

25 The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, (A)set your face (B)against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them. Say to the Ammonites, ‘Hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God: (C)“Because you said, ‘Aha!’ against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into captivity, indeed, therefore, I will deliver you as a possession to the [a]men of the East, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings among you; they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. And I will make (D)Rabbah (E)a stable for camels and Ammon a resting place for flocks. (F)Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”

‘For thus says the Lord God: “Because you (G)clapped your hands, stamped your feet, and (H)rejoiced in heart with all your disdain for the land of Israel, indeed, therefore, I will (I)stretch out My hand against you, and give you as plunder to the nations; I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish from the countries; I will destroy you, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Proclamation Against Moab

‘Thus says the Lord God: “Because (J)Moab and (K)Seir say, ‘Look! The house of Judah is like all the nations,’ therefore, behold, I will clear the territory of Moab of cities, of the cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and (L)Kirjathaim. 10 (M)To the men of the East I will give it as a possession, together with the Ammonites, that the Ammonites (N)may not be remembered among the nations. 11 And I will execute judgments upon Moab, and they shall know that I am the Lord.”

Proclamation Against Edom

12 ‘Thus says the Lord God: (O)“Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,” 13 therefore thus says the Lord God: “I will also stretch out My hand against Edom, cut off man and beast from it, and make it desolate from Teman; [b]Dedan shall fall by the sword. 14 (P)I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord God.

Proclamation Against Philistia

15 ‘Thus says the Lord God: (Q)“Because (R)the Philistines dealt vengefully and took vengeance with [c]a spiteful heart, to destroy because of the [d]old hatred,” 16 therefore thus says the Lord God: (S)“I will stretch out My hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the (T)Cherethites (U)and destroy the remnant of the seacoast. 17 I will (V)execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; (W)and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I lay My vengeance upon them.” ’ ”

A Prophecy Against Ammon

25 The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, set your face against(A) the Ammonites(B) and prophesy against them.(C) Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the Sovereign Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you said “Aha!(D)” over my sanctuary when it was desecrated(E) and over the land of Israel when it was laid waste and over the people of Judah when they went into exile,(F) therefore I am going to give you to the people of the East(G) as a possession. They will set up their camps(H) and pitch their tents among you; they will eat your fruit and drink your milk.(I) I will turn Rabbah(J) into a pasture for camels and Ammon into a resting place for sheep.(K) Then you will know that I am the Lord. For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you have clapped your hands(L) and stamped your feet, rejoicing with all the malice of your heart against the land of Israel,(M) therefore I will stretch out my hand(N) against you and give you as plunder(O) to the nations. I will wipe you out from among the nations and exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy(P) you, and you will know that I am the Lord.(Q)’”

A Prophecy Against Moab

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because Moab(R) and Seir(S) said, “Look, Judah has become like all the other nations,” therefore I will expose the flank of Moab, beginning at its frontier towns—Beth Jeshimoth(T), Baal Meon(U) and Kiriathaim(V)—the glory of that land. 10 I will give Moab along with the Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, so that the Ammonites will not be remembered(W) among the nations; 11 and I will inflict punishment on Moab. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’”(X)

A Prophecy Against Edom

12 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because Edom(Y) took revenge on Judah and became very guilty by doing so, 13 therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will stretch out my hand(Z) against Edom and kill both man and beast.(AA) I will lay it waste, and from Teman(AB) to Dedan(AC) they will fall by the sword.(AD) 14 I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger(AE) and my wrath; they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”(AF)

A Prophecy Against Philistia

15 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because the Philistines(AG) acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice(AH) in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah, 16 therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines,(AI) and I will wipe out the Kerethites(AJ) and destroy those remaining along the coast.(AK) 17 I will carry out great vengeance(AL) on them and punish(AM) them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the Lord,(AN) when I take vengeance on them.(AO)’”

15 But (A)he rebelled against him by sending his ambassadors to Egypt, (B)that they might give him horses and many people. (C)Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and still be delivered?

16 As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘surely (D)in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke—with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 17 (E)Nor will Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company do anything in the war, (F)when they heap up a siege mound and build a [a]wall to cut off many persons. 18 Since he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and in fact (G)gave[b] his hand and still did all these things, he shall not escape.’ ”

19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “As I live, surely My oath which he despised, and My covenant which he broke, I will recompense on his own head. 20 I will (H)spread My net over him, and he shall be taken in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and (I)try him there for the [c]treason which he committed against Me. 21 (J)All his [d]fugitives with all his troops shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be (K)scattered to every wind; and you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”

Judgment on Philistia

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (A)against the Philistines, (B)before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

Thus says the Lord:

“Behold, (C)waters rise (D)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
At the (E)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
[a]Lacking courage,
Because of the day that comes to plunder all the (F)Philistines,
To cut off from (G)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
(H)The remnant of the country of (I)Caphtor.[b]
(J)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
(K)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?

“O you (L)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
How can [c]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has (M)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has (N)appointed it.”

A Message About the Philistines

47 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines(A) before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:(B)

This is what the Lord says:

“See how the waters are rising in the north;(C)
    they will become an overflowing torrent.
They will overflow the land and everything in it,
    the towns and those who live in them.
The people will cry out;
    all who dwell in the land will wail(D)
at the sound of the hooves of galloping steeds,
    at the noise of enemy chariots(E)
    and the rumble of their wheels.
Parents will not turn to help their children;
    their hands will hang limp.(F)
For the day has come
    to destroy all the Philistines
and to remove all survivors
    who could help Tyre(G) and Sidon.(H)
The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines,(I)
    the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.[a](J)
Gaza will shave(K) her head in mourning;
    Ashkelon(L) will be silenced.
You remnant on the plain,
    how long will you cut(M) yourselves?

“‘Alas, sword(N) of the Lord,
    how long till you rest?
Return to your sheath;
    cease and be still.’(O)
But how can it rest
    when the Lord has commanded it,
when he has ordered it
    to attack Ashkelon and the coast?”(P)
