⁵ Or do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the spirit that God caused to dwell^[a] in us desire envy?^(A)

¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we^[a] are the temple of the living God, as God said,

²⁹ But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his spirit on them!”^(A)

¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is a temple^[a] of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?^(A)

Psalm 37

Exhortation to Patience and Trust

Of David.

³ For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another.^(A)

²¹ And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odor, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of humans, for the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth; nor will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done.^(A)

³⁵ If those to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’—and the scripture cannot be annulled—

¹⁴ He had possessions of flocks and herds and a great household, so that the Philistines envied him.^(A)

¹¹ So his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.^(A)
