¹⁰ From the same mouth comes a blessing and a curse. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.^(A)

⁹ Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse, but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called—that you might inherit a blessing.^(A)

³ for you are still fleshly. For as long as there is jealousy and quarreling^[a] among you, are you not fleshly and behaving according to human inclinations?^(A)

¹³ Besides that, they learn to be idle, gadding about from house to house, and they are not merely idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not say.^(A)

⁴ Do not trust in these deceptive words: “This is^[a] the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.”

⁵ For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another,^{(A) 6} if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt,^{(B) 7} then I will dwell with you^[b] in this place, in the land that I gave to your ancestors forever and ever.

⁸ Here you are, trusting in deceptive words to no avail.^{(C) 9} Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known^{(D) 10} and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, “We are safe!”—only to go on doing all these abominations?^(E)

⁹ Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought such great guilt on me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that ought not to be done.”^(A)
