⁹ But if you ^(A)show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

^15 (A)“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

⁹ But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

The Sin of Partiality

2 My brothers,^{[a] (A)}show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)the Lord of glory. ² For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, ³ and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” ^(C)while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” ⁴ have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become ^(D)judges with evil thoughts?

⁴ Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; ^(A)sin is lawlessness.

²⁰ For ^(A)by works of the law no human being^[a] will be justified in his sight, since ^(B)through the law comes knowledge of sin.

^8 (A)And when he comes, he will ^(B)convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:

⁴⁶ Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

^15 (A)to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have ^(B)committed in such an ungodly way, and of all ^(C)the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

¹⁹ For through the law I ^(A)died to the law, so that I might ^(B)live to God.
