²⁶ Just as the body is dead without breath,^[a] so also faith is dead without good works.

²⁰ How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

¹⁷ So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead

¹⁴ What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?

⁷ For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

⁴⁶ Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!”^[a] And with those words he breathed his last.

⁵⁹ As they stoned him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” ⁶⁰ He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.
