²³ and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a ^(B)friend of God.

⁶ And ^(A)he believed the Lord, and ^(B)he counted it to him as righteousness.

⁷ Did you not, our God, ^(A)drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of ^(B)Abraham your friend?

⁶ just as ^(A)Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

²² That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” ²³ But ^(A)the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, ²⁴ but for ours also. It will be counted to us ^(B)who believe in ^(C)him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord,

¹¹ Thus ^(A)the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his ^(B)assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

³ For what does the Scripture say? ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” ⁴ Now ^(B)to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. ⁵ And to the one who does not work but ^(C)believes in^[a] him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, ⁶ just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

^13 (A)Greater love has no one than this, ^(B)that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are ^(C)my friends ^(D)if you do what I command you. ^15 (E)No longer do I call you servants,^[a] for the servant ^(F)does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ^(G)all that I have heard from my Father ^(H)I have made known to you.
