¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

^21 (A)For from within, out of the heart of men, ^(B)proceed evil thoughts, ^(C)adulteries, ^(D)fornications, murders, ²² thefts, ^(E)covetousness, wickedness, ^(F)deceit, ^(G)lewdness, an evil eye, ^(H)blasphemy, ^(I)pride, foolishness.

²² that you ^(A)put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

¹⁸ But ^(A)those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

¹³ but ^[a]exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Law Cannot Save from Sin

¹³ Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

Pride Promotes Strife

4 Where do ^[a]wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure ^(A)that war in your members? ² You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and ^[b]war. ^[c]Yet you do not have because you do not ask.

²⁸ But I say to you that whoever ^(A)looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
