Jezus, Samarytanka i dar wody żywej
4 Następnie, gdy Jezus dowiedział się, że faryzeusze usłyszeli, iż zyskuje On więcej uczniów i chrzci więcej niż Jan — 2 chociaż sam Jezus nie chrzcił, tylko Jego uczniowie — 3 opuścił Judeę i powrócił do Galilei.
4 W drodze do Galilei Jezus musiał przejść przez Samarię. 5 Po drodze mijał samarytańskie miasteczko o nazwie Sychar, położone obok pola, które Jakub przekazał swemu synowi Józefowi. 6 Znajdowała się tam studnia Jakuba. Jezus więc, zmęczony podróżą, usiadł sobie przy studni. Było samo południe. 7 I wtedy z Samarii przyszła pewna kobieta. Chciała zaczerpnąć wody. Jezus poprosił: Daj mi pić. 8 Bo właśnie Jego uczniowie udali się do miasteczka po zakupy.
9 Co się stało? — zapytała kobieta. — Ty, Żyd, prosisz mnie, Samarytankę, o wodę? (Żydzi bowiem nie utrzymują kontaktów z Samarytanami).
10 Jezus odpowiedział: Gdybyś znała dar Boga i wiedziała, kim jest Ten, który cię prosi: Daj mi pić, sama prosiłabyś Go, a On dałby ci wody żywej.
11 Panie — zauważyła kobieta — nie masz nawet czerpaka, a studnia jest głęboka. Skąd więc masz tę żywą wodę? 12 Czyżbyś Ty był większy od naszego ojca Jakuba, który nam dał tę studnię, sam z niej pił, jego synowie i jego stada?
13 Jezus odpowiedział: Każdy, kto pije tę wodę, znów będzie odczuwał pragnienie. 14 Lecz ten, kto się napije mojej wody, nie zazna pragnienia na wieki. Woda, którą Ja mu dam, stanie się w nim źródłem wody tryskającej życiem wiecznym.
15 Kobieta poprosiła: Panie, daj mi tej wody, abym już więcej nie czuła pragnienia i nie przychodziła do tej studni.
16 Jezus powiedział do niej: Idź, zawołaj swego męża i wróć tutaj!
17 Wówczas kobieta wyznała: Nie mam męża.
Jezus na to: Dobrze mówisz. Męża nie masz. 18 Miałaś bowiem pięciu mężów, a ten, którego teraz masz, nie jest twoim mężem. Powiedziałaś prawdę.
19 Panie — zauważyła kobieta — widzę, że jesteś prorokiem. 20 Nasi ojcowie na tej górze oddawali cześć Bogu; wy natomiast mówicie, że w Jerozolimie jest miejsce, gdzie należy to czynić.
21 Jezus powiedział: Kobieto, wierz mi, nadchodzi godzina, gdy ani na tej górze, ani w Jerozolimie nie będziecie oddawali czci Ojcu. 22 Wy czcicie to, czego nie znacie, my czcimy to, co znamy, bo zbawienie pochodzi od Żydów. 23 Lecz nadchodzi godzina, a właściwie nadeszła, gdy prawdziwi czciciele będą czcili Ojca w duchu i w prawdzie. Takich właśnie czcicieli Ojciec sobie szuka. 24 Bóg jest duchem, dlatego ci, którzy Go czczą, powinni to czynić w duchu i w prawdzie.
25 Kobieta powiedziała: Wiem, że ma przyjść Mesjasz (to znaczy Chrystus). Gdy On przyjdzie, wszystko nam wyjaśni.
26 Jezus na to: Jestem Nim Ja, który z tobą rozmawiam.
27 Wtedy przyszli Jego uczniowie i byli zaskoczeni, że rozmawia z kobietą. Żaden jednak nie powiedział: O co pytasz? ani: Dlaczego z nią rozmawiasz? 28 Kobieta natomiast zostawiła swój dzban, pobiegła do miasta i zaczęła rozpowiadać: 29 Chodźcie, zobaczcie człowieka, który mi powiedział o wszystkim, co zrobiłam. Czy to nie jest Chrystus? 30 Wyszli zatem z miasta i ruszyli w Jego stronę.
31 Tymczasem uczniowie prosili Go: Mistrzu, zjedz coś.
32 On im jednak odpowiedział: Ja mam do jedzenia pokarm, którego wy nie znacie.
33 Uczniowie pytali więc siebie nawzajem: Czy ktoś Mu przyniósł coś do jedzenia?
34 Wtedy Jezus powiedział: Moim pokarmem jest wypełnienie woli Tego, który Mnie posłał, i dokonanie Jego dzieła. 35 Czy wy sami nie mówicie: Jeszcze cztery miesiące do żniw? Otóż posłuchajcie: Podnieście swoje oczy i przyjrzyjcie się polom — są już dojrzałe. 36 Już żniwiarz odbiera zapłatę i zbiera plon na życie wieczne, aby siewca cieszył się razem ze żniwiarzem. 37 Oto jak sprawdza się przysłowie: Jeden sieje, a drugi żnie. 38 Ja was posłałem, abyście żęli to, nad czym się nie trudziliście. Inni wykonali ciężką pracę, a wy korzystacie z ich trudu.
Nawrócenia wśród Samarytan
39 Co do Samarytan mieszkających w miasteczku, to wielu uwierzyło w Niego dzięki świadectwu kobiety, która rozgłaszała: Powiedział mi o wszystkim, co uczyniłam. 40 Gdy więc przyszli do Niego, prosili, aby u nich pozostał. I pozostał tam dwa dni. 41 Wielu też innych uwierzyło dzięki Jego Słowu. 42 A do kobiety mówili: Wierzymy już nie dzięki twemu opowiadaniu. Teraz sami przekonaliśmy się, że On naprawdę jest Zbawcą świata.
Uzdrowienie dla ufających Słowu
43 Po upływie dwóch dni Jezus odszedł z Sychar do Galilei. 44 Sam bowiem przyznawał, że we własnej ojczyźnie prorok nie ma poważania. 45 Gdy więc przyszedł do Galilei, spotkał się z dobrym przyjęciem, ponieważ Galilejczycy widzieli wszystko, co podczas święta uczynił w Jerozolimie, dlatego że oni również uczestniczyli w obchodach.
46 Znowu zatem Jezus przyszedł do Kany Galilejskiej, gdzie wcześniej przemienił wodę w wino. W Kafarnaum natomiast mieszkał pewien urzędnik królewski, którego syn chorował. 47 Gdy usłyszał, że Jezus przybył z Judei do Galilei, udał się do Niego i prosił, aby wstąpił i uzdrowił jego syna, który był bliski śmierci.
48 Jezus powiedział do niego: Jeśli nie zobaczycie znaków i cudów, nigdy nie uwierzycie.
49 Urzędnik na to: Panie, wstąp, zanim umrze moje dziecko.
50 Idź — powiedział Jezus — twój syn żyje. Człowiek ten uwierzył Słowu, które skierował do niego Jezus — i poszedł.
51 A gdy jeszcze był w drodze, jego słudzy wyszli mu naprzeciw mówiąc, że jego dziecko żyje. 52 Zapytał ich więc o godzinę, w której mu się polepszyło. Gorączka spadła mu wczoraj około godziny trzynastej[a] — odpowiedzieli. 53 Wówczas ojciec uświadomił sobie, że o tej właśnie godzinie Jezus go zapewnił: Twój syn żyje. I uwierzył on sam oraz cały jego dom. 54 Był to już drugi znak, którego Jezus dokonał po przyjściu z Judei do Galilei.

Jezus rozmawia z Samarytanką
4 Wkrótce Jezus otrzymał wiadomość, że faryzeusze już wiedzą, iż pozyskuje i chrzci więcej uczniów niż Jan 2 (chociaż Jezus osobiście nikogo nie chrzcił, ale czynili to Jego uczniowie). 3 Dlatego opuścił Judeę i skierował się do Galilei. 4 Chciał jednak przejść przez Samarię. 5 Zbliżył się więc do samarytańskiego miasteczka Sychar, położonego w pobliżu terenów, które dawno temu patriarcha Jakub przekazał swojemu synowi, Józefowi. 6 Znajdowała się tam studnia Jakuba. Zmęczony drogą, Jezus usiadł przy niej, a było to samo południe. 7 Wtedy właśnie przyszła tam po wodę pewna Samarytanka. Jezus poprosił ją:
—Możesz dać Mi się napić?
8 Uczniowie w tym czasie poszli do miasteczka kupić coś do jedzenia. 9 Kobieta odrzekła:
—Prosisz mnie o wodę?! Przecież Żydzi i Samarytanie nawet z sobą nie rozmawiają.
10 —Gdybyś wiedziała, jak wspaniały dar przygotował Bóg dla ludzi oraz kto do ciebie mówi, prosiłabyś Go, a dałby ci wodę życia—odpowiedział Jezus.
11 —Panie, przecież nie masz nawet czym zaczerpnąć wody, a studnia jest głęboka. Skąd więc weźmiesz tę wodę życia? 12 Czyżbyś był większy od naszego przodka Jakuba, który dał nam tę studnię? On sam pił z niej wodę, a także jego dzieci oraz całe jego stada.
13 —Każdy, kto pije tę wodę, po jakim czasie znowu będzie mieć pragnienie—odrzekł Jezus. 14 —Ale kto napije się mojej wody, już nigdy nie będzie spragniony. Wręcz przeciwnie! Moja woda wytryśnie z niego i stanie się źródłem życia wiecznego.
15 —Panie, daj mi więc tej wody—poprosiła kobieta—abym już nie była spragniona i nie musiała przychodzić do tej studni.
16 —Idź najpierw i przyprowadź męża—rzekł do niej Jezus.
17 —Nie mam męża—odparła.
—Słusznie mówisz: „Nie mam męża”. 18 Miałaś bowiem pięciu mężów, a mężczyzna, z którym teraz żyjesz, nie jest twoim mężem. Powiedziałaś więc prawdę.
19 —Panie, widzę, że jesteś prorokiem!—powiedziała. 20 —Nasi przodkowie czcili Boga na tej górze. A wy, Żydzi, twierdzicie, że Jerozolima jest właściwym miejscem oddawania Mu czci.
21 —Uwierz Mi, kobieto, że nadchodzi czas, gdy ani na tej górze, ani w Jerozolimie nie będziecie czcili Ojca. 22 Wy nie wiecie, kim jest Ten, komu oddajecie cześć. My znamy Go, bo zbawienie wywodzi się od Żydów. 23 Nadchodzi jednak czas—właściwie już nadszedł—gdy prawdziwi czciciele Ojca będą oddawać Mu cześć w duchu i w prawdzie. Właśnie takich czcicieli On pragnie. 24 Bóg jest duchem. Dlatego ci, którzy oddają Mu cześć, mają to robić w duchu i w prawdzie.
25 —Wiem, że pewnego dnia ma przyjść Mesjasz (to znaczy: „Chrystus”)—odrzekła kobieta. —A gdy On nadejdzie, wszystko nam wyjaśni.
26 —Właśnie z Nim rozmawiasz! To Ja Nim jestem—odpowiedział Jezus.
Powrót uczniów
27 W tym momencie nadeszli uczniowie i zdziwili się, że Jezus rozmawia z samarytańską kobietą. Żaden z nich jednak nie zapytał: „Po co z nią rozmawiasz?”. 28 Ona zaś zostawiła dzban i pobiegła do miasteczka, wołając:
29 —Chodźcie zobaczyć człowieka, który powiedział mi wszystko, co zrobiłam w życiu! To musi być Mesjasz!
30 Mieszkańcy wyszli więc z miasteczka i szli zobaczyć Jezusa. 31 Tymczasem uczniowie zachęcali Go:
—Nauczycielu! Zjedz coś.
32 —Ja mam pokarm, o którym nie wiecie—odpowiedział.
33 —Czyżby ktoś przyniósł Mu jedzenie?—zastanawiali się między sobą.
34 —Moim pokarmem jest wypełnianie woli Tego, który Mnie posłał, i wykonywanie Jego dzieła—odparł Jezus. 35 —Czy nie mówicie: Już za cztery miesiące zaczną się żniwa? Ja wam mówię: Rozejrzyjcie się dookoła i zobaczcie, że pola już teraz są gotowe do żniw. 36 Żniwiarz odbiera zapłatę za pracę i zbiera wieczny plon. A ten, który siał, cieszy się razem z nim. 37 Prawdziwe jest powiedzenie: „Jeden sieje, drugi zbiera”. 38 Oto posłałem was do zbierania tego, czego nie sialiście. Inni się przy tym napracowali, a wy zbieracie plon ich pracy.
Wiara Samarytan
39 Wielu Samarytan z tego miasteczka uwierzyło Jezusowi dzięki słowom kobiety: „Powiedział mi wszystko, co zrobiłam w życiu!”. 40 Gdy więc przyszli do Niego, prosili, żeby się u nich zatrzymał. Został więc tam dwa dni. 41 Oni zaś słuchali Jego nauki i jeszcze więcej z nich uwierzyło Mu. 42 Kobiecie zaś mówili: „Wierzymy teraz nie tylko dzięki twoim słowom. Sami bowiem Go słyszeliśmy i wiemy, że to właśnie On jest Zbawicielem świata”.
Jezus uzdrawia syna urzędnika
43 Po upływie dwóch dni Jezus udał się do Galilei, 44 mówił bowiem, że prorok nie może znaleźć szacunku we własnej ojczyźnie. 45 Mieszkańcy Galilei przyjęli Go z otwartymi ramionami. Byli bowiem w Jerozolimie na święcie Paschy i widzieli wszystko, czego tam dokonał. 46 Jezus ponownie poszedł do Kany Galilejskiej, gdzie poprzednio przemienił wodę w wino.
W pobliskim Kafarnaum mieszkał pewien urzędnik państwowy, którego syn akurat poważnie chorował. 47 Usłyszał on wcześniej, że Jezus zmierza z Judei do Galilei. Przyszedł więc do Kany i błagał Go, aby udał się do Kafarnaum i uzdrowił jego umierającego syna. 48 Jezus rzekł do niego:
—Jeśli nie zobaczycie cudów, nie uwierzycie Mi.
49 —Panie, zechciej przyjść, zanim moje dziecko umrze—błagał urzędnik.
50 —Wracaj do domu! Twój syn będzie żył—odpowiedział Jezus.
Urzędnik uwierzył Jezusowi na słowo i odszedł. 51 Gdy był jeszcze w drodze, wybiegli mu na spotkanie słudzy z wieścią, że jego syn wyzdrowiał. 52 Zapytał więc, o której godzinie poczuł się lepiej.
—Wczoraj o pierwszej po południu spadła mu gorączka—odpowiedzieli.
53 Ojciec uświadomił sobie wówczas, że właśnie o tej godzinie Jezus powiedział mu: „Twój syn będzie żył”. Wtedy on sam i cały jego dom uwierzył Jezusowi. 54 Był to drugi cud Jezusa od Jego powrotu z Judei do Galilei.

Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman
4 Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John(A)— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3 So he left Judea(B) and went back once more to Galilee.
4 Now he had to go through Samaria.(C) 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.(D) 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”(E) 8 (His disciples had gone into the town(F) to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan(G) woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”(H)
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well(I) and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.(J) Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water(K) welling up to eternal life.”(L)
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty(M) and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.(N) 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain,(O) but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”(P)
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming(Q) when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.(R) 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know;(S) we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.(T) 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come(U) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit(V) and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit,(W) and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ)(X) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”(Y)
The Disciples Rejoin Jesus
27 Just then his disciples returned(Z) and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”
28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.(AA) Could this be the Messiah?”(AB) 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.
31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi,(AC) eat something.”
32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat(AD) that you know nothing about.”
33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will(AE) of him who sent me and to finish his work.(AF) 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.(AG) 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests(AH) a crop for eternal life,(AI) so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’(AJ) is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
Many Samaritans Believe
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town(AK) believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”(AL) 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.
42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”(AM)
Jesus Heals an Official’s Son
43 After the two days(AN) he left for Galilee. 44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)(AO) 45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(AP) for they also had been there.
46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine.(AQ) And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea,(AR) he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,”(AS) Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household(AT) believed.
54 This was the second sign(AU) Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.

A Samaritan Woman Meets Her Messiah
4 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and (A)baptized more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), 3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He needed to go through Samaria.
5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that (B)Jacob (C)gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For (D)Jews have no dealings with (E)Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the (F)gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you (G)living water.”
11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but (H)whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him (I)will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
15 (J)The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”
Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, (K)I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on (L)this mountain, and you Jews say that in (M)Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming (N)when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship (O)what you do not know; we know what we worship, for (P)salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will (Q)worship the Father in (R)spirit (S)and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 (T)God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah (U)is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, (V)He will tell us all things.”
26 Jesus said to her, (W)“I who speak to you am He.”
The Whitened Harvest
27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”
28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man (X)who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
34 Jesus said to them, (Y)“My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to (Z)finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes (AA)the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, (AB)for they are already white for harvest! 36 (AC)And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that (AD)both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: (AE)‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; (AF)others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
The Savior of the World
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him (AG)because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of His own (AH)word.
42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for (AI)we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed [a]the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
Welcome at Galilee
43 Now after the two days He departed from there and went to Galilee. 44 For (AJ)Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, (AK)having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem at the feast; (AL)for they also had gone to the feast.
A Nobleman’s Son Healed
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee (AM)where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain [b]nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Then Jesus said to him, (AN)“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”
49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”
52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.
54 This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

4 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
