13 A przed świętem Paschy Jezus, wiedząc, że nadeszła jego godzina, aby przeszedł z tego świata do Ojca, umiłowawszy swoich, którzy byli na świecie, umiłował ich aż do końca.
2 A gdy była wieczerza i diabeł już wrzucił w serce Judasza, syna Szymona Iskarioty, zamysł, aby go wydać;
3 Jezus, wiedząc, że Ojciec dał wszystko w jego ręce i że od Boga wyszedł, i do Boga idzie;
4 Wstał od wieczerzy i złożył szaty, a wziąwszy płócienny ręcznik, przepasał się.
5 Potem nalał wody do miednicy i zaczął myć nogi uczniom, i wycierać ręcznikiem, którym był przepasany.
6 I podszedł do Szymona Piotra, a on powiedział do niego: Panie, ty chcesz mi umyć nogi?
7 Jezus mu odpowiedział: Tego, co ja czynię, ty teraz nie rozumiesz, ale potem zrozumiesz.
8 Piotr mu powiedział: Nigdy nie będziesz mył moich nóg. Jezus mu odpowiedział: Jeśli cię nie umyję, nie będziesz miał działu ze mną.
9 Wtedy Szymon Piotr powiedział do niego: Panie, nie tylko moje nogi, ale i ręce, i głowę.
10 Jezus mu odpowiedział: Kto jest umyty, potrzebuje umyć tylko nogi, bo cały jest czysty. I wy jesteście czyści, lecz nie wszyscy.
11 Wiedział bowiem, kto ma go wydać, dlatego powiedział: Nie wszyscy jesteście czyści.
12 Gdy więc umył im nogi i wziął swoje szaty, usiadłszy znowu za stołem, powiedział do nich: Czy rozumiecie, co wam uczyniłem?
13 Wy nazywacie mnie Nauczycielem i Panem i dobrze mówicie, bo nim jestem.
14 Jeśli więc ja, Pan i Nauczyciel, umyłem wam nogi i wy powinniście sobie nawzajem myć nogi.
15 Dałem wam bowiem przykład, abyście i wy czynili tak, jak ja wam uczyniłem.
16 Zaprawdę, zaprawdę powiadam wam: Sługa nie jest większy od swego pana ani posłaniec nie jest większy od tego, który go posłał.
17 Jeśli to wiecie, będziecie błogosławieni, gdy tak uczynicie.
18 Nie mówię o was wszystkich. Ja wiem, których wybrałem, ale żeby się wypełniło Pismo: Ten, który je ze mną chleb, podniósł przeciwko mnie swoją piętę.

27 A zaraz po tym kawałku chleba wszedł w niego szatan. Wtedy Jezus powiedział do niego: Co masz robić, rób szybko.
28 Żaden jednak z obecnych przy stole nie zrozumiał, dlaczego mu to powiedział.
29 A ponieważ Judasz miał sakiewkę, niektórzy sądzili, że Jezus mu powiedział: Nakup, czego nam potrzeba na święto, albo żeby coś dał ubogim.
30 Wtedy on wziął ten kawałek chleba i natychmiast wyszedł. A była noc.
31 A gdy wyszedł, Jezus powiedział: Teraz jest uwielbiony Syn Człowieczy i Bóg jest w nim uwielbiony.
32 A jeśli Bóg jest w nim uwielbiony, to go też Bóg uwielbi sam w sobie, i to wkrótce go uwielbi.
33 Dzieci, jeszcze krótko jestem z wami. Będziecie mnie szukać, ale jak powiedziałem Żydom: Gdzie ja idę, wy przyjść nie możecie, tak i wam teraz mówię.
34 Daję wam nowe przykazanie, abyście się wzajemnie miłowali; tak jak ja was umiłowałem, abyście i wy wzajemnie się miłowali.
35 Po tym wszyscy poznają, że jesteście moimi uczniami, jeśli będziecie się wzajemnie miłować.
36 Zapytał go Szymon Piotr: Panie, dokąd idziesz? Jezus mu odpowiedział: Dokąd ja idę, ty teraz za mną iść nie możesz, ale potem pójdziesz.
37 Wtedy Piotr powiedział mu: Panie, czemu teraz nie mogę iść za tobą? Moje życie oddam za ciebie.
38 Jezus mu odpowiedział: Swoje życie za mnie oddasz? Zaprawdę, zaprawdę powiadam ci: Zanim kogut zapieje, trzy razy się mnie wyprzesz.

Jezus myje uczniom nogi
13 W przeddzień święta Paschy Jezus wiedział już, że nadszedł Jego czas—czas odejścia ze świata do Ojca. Tym, których ukochał, chciał okazać miłość aż do samego końca. 2 W czasie uroczystej kolacji diabeł zawładnął sercem Judasza (syna Szymona z Kariotu) i pobudził go do zdrady. 3 Jezus wiedział, że Ojciec wszystko Mu powierzył. Wiedział również, że przyszedł od Ojca i do Niego odchodzi. 4 Dlatego wstał od kolacji, przebrał się, przepasał ręcznikiem, 5 a potem nalał wody do miski i zaczął myć uczniom nogi, wycierając je ręcznikiem, który miał na sobie.
6 Gdy podszedł do Szymona Piotra, ten zawołał:
—Panie, Ty myjesz mi nogi?!
7 —Teraz nie zrozumiesz tego, co robię—odpowiedział Jezus. —Ale później zrozumiesz.
8 —O, nie!—protestował Piotr. —Nigdy nie będziesz mi mył nóg!
—Jeśli tego nie zrobię, nie będziesz do Mnie należał—odrzekł Jezus.
9 —W takim razie umyj nie tylko moje nogi, ale także ręce i głowę!
10 —Wykąpany nie musi się myć, bo jest już czysty. Wystarczy, że opłucze nogi. Wy jesteście już czyści—jednak nie wszyscy.
11 Wiedział bowiem, kto Go zdradzi. Dlatego powiedział: „Nie wszyscy jesteście czyści”.
12 Po umyciu im nóg Jezus z powrotem się przebrał, usiadł z nimi i zapytał:
—Czy rozumiecie, co zrobiłem? 13 Nazywacie Mnie „Nauczycielem” oraz „Panem” i macie rację, bo Nim jestem. 14 Skoro więc Ja, wasz Pan i Nauczyciel, umyłem wam nogi, to i wy powinniście czynić podobnie. 15 Dałem wam przykład, abyście postępowali wobec siebie tak, jak Ja. 16 Zapewniam was: Sługa nie jest ważniejszy od swojego pana, a posłaniec—od tego, kto go posłał. 17 Jeśli będziecie o tym pamiętać i tak postępować—będziecie szczęśliwi.
Jezus zapowiada zdradę
18 Nie do wszystkich jednak odnosi się to, co powiedziałem. Wiem bowiem, kogo wybrałem. Muszą się jednak wypełnić słowa Pisma: „Ten, który jadł ze Mną chleb, zwrócił się przeciwko Mnie”. 19 Mówię o tym już teraz, abyście—gdy tak się stanie—uwierzyli, że JA JESTEM. 20 Zapewniam was: Kto przyjmuje mojego posłańca, Mnie samego przyjmuje. A kto Mnie przyjmuje, przyjmuje Tego, który Mnie posłał.
Jezus wskazuje zdrajcę
21 Potem, przejęty do głębi, powtórzył raz jeszcze:
—Zapewniam was: Jeden z was Mnie zdradzi!
22 Zaniepokojeni uczniowie popatrzyli po sobie, zastanawiając się, o kim mówi. 23 Jeden z nich, najbliższy przyjaciel Jezusa, siedział tuż przy Nim. 24 Szymon Piotr dał mu więc znak, aby zapytał, o kogo chodzi. 25 Ten więc nachylił się i zapytał:
—Panie, kto to?
26 —To ten, któremu podam kawałek umoczonego w sosie chleba—odrzekł Jezus.
Umoczył więc kawałek i podał Judaszowi. 27 On zjadł i wtedy opanował go szatan. Jezus zaś powiedział do Judasza:
—Zrób szybko to, co zamierzasz.
28 Nikt jednak tego nie zrozumiał. 29 Ponieważ Judasz był skarbnikiem, niektórzy myśleli, że Jezus wydał mu polecenie: „Kup rzeczy potrzebne na święto” lub „Zanieś pieniądze biednym”. 30 Gdy więc Judasz zjadł podany kawałek chleba, natychmiast wyszedł. A była już noc.
Jezus zapowiada zaparcie się Piotra
31 Po jego wyjściu Jezus powiedział:
—Ja, Syn Człowieczy, zostałem teraz otoczony chwałą. I otoczę chwałą Boga. 32 On zaś wkrótce otoczy chwałą Mnie. 33 Kochani! Będę z wami jeszcze tylko chwilę. Potem będziecie Mnie szukać, ale jak powiedziałem przywódcom, tak i wam powtarzam: Tam, gdzie idę, nie możecie pójść. 34 Daję wam nowe przykazanie, abyście się wzajemnie kochali. Jak Ja was ukochałem, tak wy macie kochać jedni drugich. 35 Jeśli będziecie okazywać sobie nawzajem miłość, wszyscy rozpoznają, że naprawdę jesteście moimi uczniami.
36 —Panie, ale dokąd odchodzisz?—zaniepokoił się Szymon Piotr.
—Teraz nie możesz iść tam razem ze Mną—odpowiedział Jezus—ale kiedyś pójdziesz.
37 —Dlaczego nie teraz, Panie? Oddam za Ciebie życie!
38 —Oddasz za Mnie życie?—odparł Jezus. —Zapewniam cię, że zanim rano zapieje kogut, trzy razy zaprzeczysz, że Mnie znasz.

13 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet
13 It was just before the Passover Festival.(A) Jesus knew that the hour had come(B) for him to leave this world and go to the Father.(C) Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.(D) 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power,(E) and that he had come from God(F) and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.(G) 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet,(H) drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”(I)
8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean,(J) though not every one of you.”(K) 11 For he knew who was going to betray him,(L) and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’(M) and ‘Lord,’(N) and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.(O) 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.(P) 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master,(Q) nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.(R)
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
18 “I am not referring to all of you;(S) I know those I have chosen.(T) But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture:(U) ‘He who shared my bread(V) has turned[a](W) against me.’[b](X)
19 “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe(Y) that I am who I am.(Z) 20 Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”(AA)
21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit(AB) and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”(AC)
22 His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved,(AD) was reclining next to him. 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”
25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”(AE)
26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas,(AF) the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.(AG)
So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” 28 But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. 29 Since Judas had charge of the money,(AH) some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival,(AI) or to give something to the poor.(AJ) 30 As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.(AK)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(AL)
31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man(AM) is glorified(AN) and God is glorified in him.(AO) 32 If God is glorified in him,[c] God will glorify the Son in himself,(AP) and will glorify him at once.
33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.(AQ)
34 “A new command(AR) I give you: Love one another.(AS) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.(AT) 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”(AU)
36 Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”(AV)
Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now,(AW) but you will follow later.”(AX)
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!(AY)
