Meeting Specific Needs(A)

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him (B)pray. Is anyone cheerful? (C)Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, (D)anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. (E)And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. (F)The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man (G)with a nature like ours, and (H)he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed (I)again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone (J)turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way (K)will save [c]a soul from death and (L)cover a multitude of sins.

13 If you are having trouble, you should pray. And if you are feeling good, you should sing praises. 14 (A) If you are sick, ask the church leaders[a] to come and pray for you. Ask them to put olive oil[b] on you in the name of the Lord. 15 If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them.

16 (B) If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot. 17 (C) Elijah was just as human as we are, and for three and a half years his prayers kept the rain from falling. 18 (D) But when he did pray for rain, it fell from the skies and made the crops grow.

19 My friends, if any followers have wandered away from the truth, you should try to lead them back. 20 (E) If you turn sinners from the wrong way, you will save them from death, and many of their sins will be forgiven.
