James 4:12-5:11
Christian Standard Bible
12 There is one lawgiver and judge[a] who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?(A)
Our Will and God’s Will
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”(B) 14 Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring—what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.(C)
15 Instead, you should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.(D) 17 So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.(E)
Warning to the Rich
5 Come now, you rich(F) people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.(G) 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.(H) 4 Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers(I) who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.(J) 5 You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts(K) in a day of slaughter.(L) 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous, who does not resist you.(M)
Waiting for the Lord
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.(N) 8 You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.(O)
9 Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!(P)
10 Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name as an example of suffering and patience. 11 See, we count as blessed those who have endured.[b] You have heard of Job’s endurance(Q) and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about—the Lord is compassionate and merciful.(R)

5 Ἄγε νῦν οἱ πλούσιοι, κλαύσατε ὀλολύζοντες ἐπὶ ταῖς ταλαιπωρίαις ὑμῶν ταῖς ἐπερχομέναις. 2 ὁ πλοῦτος ὑμῶν σέσηπεν, καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια ὑμῶν σητόβρωτα γέγονεν, 3 ὁ χρυσὸς ὑμῶν καὶ ὁ ἄργυρος κατίωται, καὶ ὁ ἰὸς αὐτῶν εἰς μαρτύριον ὑμῖν ἔσται καὶ φάγεται τὰς σάρκας ὑμῶν· ὡς πῦρ ἐθησαυρίσατε ἐν ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις. 4 ἰδοὺ ὁ μισθὸς τῶν ἐργατῶν τῶν ἀμησάντων τὰς χώρας ὑμῶν ὁ [s]ἀφυστερημένος ἀφ’ ὑμῶν κράζει, καὶ αἱ βοαὶ τῶν θερισάντων εἰς τὰ ὦτα Κυρίου Σαβαὼθ [t]εἰσεληλύθασιν· 5 ἐτρυφήσατε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐσπαταλήσατε, ἐθρέψατε τὰς καρδίας [u]ὑμῶν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ σφαγῆς. 6 κατεδικάσατε, ἐφονεύσατε τὸν δίκαιον. οὐκ ἀντιτάσσεται ὑμῖν;

James 4:12-5:11
Revised Standard Version
12 There is one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you that you judge your neighbor?
Boasting about Tomorrow
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and get gain”; 14 whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
Warning to Rich Oppressors
5 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure[a] for the last days. 4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. 5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned, you have killed the righteous man; he does not resist you.
Patience in Suffering
7 Be patient, therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it until it receives the early and the late rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 9 Do not grumble, brethren, against one another, that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the doors. 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we call those happy who were steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

James 4:12-5:11
New King James Version
12 There is one [a]Lawgiver, (A)who is able to save and to destroy. (B)Who[b] are you to judge [c]another?
Do Not Boast About Tomorrow
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow [d]we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? (C)It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, (D)“If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. (E)All such boasting is evil.
17 Therefore, (F)to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Rich Oppressors Will Be Judged
5 Come now, you (G)rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your (H)riches [e]are corrupted, and (I)your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. (J)You have heaped up treasure in the last days. 4 Indeed (K)the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and (L)the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of [f]Sabaoth. 5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and [g]luxury; you have [h]fattened your hearts [i]as in a day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.
Be Patient and Persevering
7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord [j]is at hand.
9 Do not [k]grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be [l]condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10 (M)My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and (N)patience. 11 Indeed (O)we count them blessed who (P)endure. You have heard of (Q)the perseverance of Job and seen (R)the end intended by the Lord—that (S)the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
