Taming the Tongue

3 Not many of you should become teachers,^(A) my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged^(B) more strictly.^{(C) 2} We all stumble^(D) in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say^(E) is perfect,^(F) able to keep their whole body in check.^(G)

¹² Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.^(A)

The Prayer of Faith

¹³ Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.^(B) Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.^{(C) 14} Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders^(D) of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil^(E) in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith^(F) will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. ¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins^(G) to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.^(H) The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.^(I)
