Greeting to the Twelve Tribes
1 James, (A)a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad:
Greetings.
Profiting from Trials
2 My brethren, (B)count it all joy (C)when you fall into various trials, 3 (D)knowing that the testing of your faith produces [a]patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [b]perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 (E)If any of you lacks wisdom, (F)let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and (G)it will be given to him. 6 (H)But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is (I)a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
The Perspective of Rich and Poor
9 Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, 10 but the rich in his humiliation, because (J)as a flower of the field he will pass away. 11 For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.
Loving God Under Trials
12 (K)Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive (L)the crown of life (M)which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, (N)when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, (O)brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 (P)Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, (Q)with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 (R)Of His own will He brought us forth by the (S)word of truth, (T)that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
Qualities Needed in Trials
19 [c]So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, (U)slow to speak, (V)slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Doers—Not Hearers Only
21 Therefore (W)lay aside all filthiness and [d]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, (X)which is able to save your souls.
22 But (Y)be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For (Z)if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But (AA)he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, (AB)this one will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone [e]among you thinks he is religious, and (AC)does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27 (AD)Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: (AE)to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, (AF)and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Мудрость и вера
2 Братья, когда вы сталкиваетесь с различного рода испытаниями[b], принимайте их с великой радостью. 3 Вы знаете, что испытание вашей веры вырабатывает стойкость, 4 а стойкость должна настолько возрасти в вас, чтобы вы стали зрелыми и цельными, без всяких недостатков. 5 Если кому-то из вас недостаёт мудрости, пусть просит у Аллаха, Который, не упрекая, щедро наделяет ею всех, – и ему будет дано. 6 Но тот, кто просит, должен верить, нисколько не сомневаясь, потому что сомневающийся похож на морскую волну, носимую и разбиваемую ветром. 7 Пусть такой человек не рассчитывает получить что-либо от Вечного[c]. 8 Это двоедушный человек, не уверенный ни в чём, что бы он ни делал.
Богатство не вечно
9 Брат из низшего сословия на самом деле может хвалиться своим высоким положением в глазах Аллаха. 10 А богатый может хвалиться только тем, что Аллах смирит его, потому что он исчезнет, как полевой цветок. 11 Восходит солнце и своим жаром сушит растение, его цветок опадает, и вся красота исчезает.[d] Так же и богатый человек увянет за своими делами.
Испытания и искушения
12 Счастлив тот, кто, перенеся испытание, выдержит его до конца – он получит венец жизни[e], который Аллах обещал всем, кто любит Его. 13 Когда вас постигает искушение, не говорите: «Это Аллах меня искушает». Аллах Сам не может быть искушён злом и не искушает никого. 14 Каждого человека искушают его же собственные греховные желания, они увлекают и соблазняют его. 15 Затем желание зачинает и порождает грех, а совершённый грех порождает смерть.
16 Смотрите, любимые мои братья, не заблуждайтесь. 17 Все добрые и совершенные дары исходят свыше, от Отца, Творца небесных светил, у Которого нет ни изменения, ни тени перемены. 18 Он Сам по Своей воле родил нас словом истины, чтобы нам быть первыми плодами[f] среди Его созданий.
Слова и поступки
19 Любимые мои братья, поймите: пусть каждый будет склонен скорее слушать, чем говорить или проявлять гнев. 20 В гневе человек не делает угодного Аллаху. 21 Поэтому оставьте всякую нечистоту и остаток злобы и в кротости примите насаждаемое слово, которое имеет силу спасти ваши души.
22 При этом будьте не только слушателями слова, но и исполнителями его, иначе вы просто обманываете себя. 23 Кто слушает слово, но не исполняет его, тот похож на человека, который смотрит в зеркало: 24 он посмотрел на себя, отошёл и сразу же забыл, как выглядит. 25 Но человек, который постоянно вникает в совершенный Закон Аллаха, дающий свободу, и поступает согласно ему, не забывая о том, что слышал, будет благословен в своих делах.
26 Кто считает себя благочестивым, но не может управлять своим языком, тот обманывает самого себя, и благочестие такого человека бесполезно. 27 Чистое и непорочное благочестие перед Аллахом, нашим Небесным Отцом, заключается в том, чтобы помогать сиротам и вдовам в их нуждах и хранить себя чистым от этого мира.

To the twelve tribes(C) scattered(D) among the nations:

Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds,(F) 3 because you know that the testing of your faith(G) produces perseverance.(H) 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature(I) and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,(J) who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.(K) 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt,(L) because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded(M) and unstable(N) in all they do.
9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.(O) 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.(P) 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat(Q) and withers(R) the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.(S) In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial(T) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life(U) that the Lord has promised to those who love him.(V)
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own(W) evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;(X) and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.(Y)
16 Don’t be deceived,(Z) my dear brothers and sisters.(AA) 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above,(AB) coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,(AC) who does not change(AD) like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth(AE) through the word of truth,(AF) that we might be a kind of firstfruits(AG) of all he created.
Listening and Doing
19 My dear brothers and sisters,(AH) take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak(AI) and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger(AJ) does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of(AK) all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you,(AL) which can save you.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.(AM) 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom,(AN) and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.(AO)
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues(AP) deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after(AQ) orphans and widows(AR) in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.(AS)
