^5 (A)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(B)let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and ^(C)it will be given to him.

⁷ If you abide in Me, and My words ^(A)abide in you, ^(B)you^[a] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

Confidence and Compassion in Prayer

¹⁴ Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that ^(A)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking^(A)

^7 (B)“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ⁸ For ^(C)everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. ^9 (D)Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? ¹⁰ Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? ¹¹ If you then, ^(E)being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

^10 (A)Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may ^(B)go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

⁷ Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a ^(A)little child; I do not know how ^(B)to go out or come in. ⁸ And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You ^(C)have chosen, a great people, ^(D)too numerous to be numbered or counted. ^9 (E)Therefore give to Your servant an ^[a]understanding heart ^(F)to judge Your people, that I may ^(G)discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

¹⁰ The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have ^(H)not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, ^12 (I)behold, I have done according to your words; ^(J)see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.
