Testing of Your Faith

^2 (A)Count it all joy, my brothers,^[a] when you meet trials ^(B)of various kinds, ³ for you know that ^(C)the testing of your faith ^(D)produces steadfastness. ⁴ And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be ^(E)perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

^5 (F)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(G)let him ask God, ^(H)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. ⁶ But ^(I)let him ask in faith, ^(J)with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like ^(K)a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

² Through him we have also ^(A)obtained access by faith^[a] into this grace ^(B)in which we stand, and ^(C)we^[b] rejoice^[c] in hope of the glory of God. ³ Not only that, but we ^(D)rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering ^(E)produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, ⁵ and ^(F)hope does not put us to shame, because God's love ^(G)has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

^6 (A)Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, ^7 (B)casting all your anxieties on him, because ^(C)he cares for you. ^8 (D)Be sober-minded; ^(E)be watchful. Your ^(F)adversary the devil ^(G)prowls around ^(H)like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ^9 (I)Resist him, ^(J)firm in your faith, knowing that ^(K)the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. ¹⁰ And ^(L)after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, ^(M)who has called you to his ^(N)eternal glory in Christ, will himself ^(O)restore, ^(P)confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
