To the twelve tribes in the Diaspora:

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

²Suppose a man comes into your synagogue wearing gold rings and fancy clothes, and also a poor man comes in dressed in rags.

^[a] ²For if a man with a gold ring and fine clothes comes into your synagogue, and a poor person in filthy clothes also comes in;

²For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
