James 4:4-8
English Standard Version
4 (A)You adulterous people![a] Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? (B)Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit (C)that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But (D)he gives more grace. Therefore it says, (E)“God opposes the proud but (F)gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. (G)Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 (H)Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (I)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and (J)purify your hearts, (K)you double-minded.

4 You adulterous(A) people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world(B) means enmity against God?(C) Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.(D) 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]?(E) 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil,(G) and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you.(H) Wash your hands,(I) you sinners, and purify your hearts,(J) you double-minded.(K)
