53 Are you greater than our father Abraham?(A) He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”

54 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself,(B) my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.(C) 55 Though you do not know him,(D) I know him.(E) If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.(F) 56 Your father Abraham(G) rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it(H) and was glad.”

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
