Jesus and Thomas

24 Now (A)Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,[a] was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, (B)“Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. (C)Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, (D)“Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, (E)“Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, (F)“My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? (G)Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

The Purpose of This Book

30 (H)Now Jesus did many other signs (I)in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 (J)but these are written so that you may (K)believe that Jesus is the Christ, (L)the Son of God, and that by believing (M)you may have life (N)in his name.

Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples

21 After this Jesus (O)revealed himself (P)again to the disciples by (Q)the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, (R)Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of (S)Cana in Galilee, (T)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but (U)that night they caught nothing.

Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples (V)did not know that it was Jesus. (W)Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” (X)He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. That disciple (Y)whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, (Z)he put on his outer garment, for he was (AA)stripped for work, and (AB)threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards[b] off.

When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, (AC)“Come and (AD)have breakfast.” Now (AE)none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and (AF)took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 (AG)This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus Appears to Thomas

24 Now Thomas(A) (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,(B) I will not believe.”(C)

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(D) be with you!”(E) 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”(F)

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;(G) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(H)

The Purpose of John’s Gospel

30 Jesus performed many other signs(I) in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.(J) 31 But these are written that you may believe[b](K) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,(L) and that by believing you may have life in his name.(M)

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish

21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples,(N) by the Sea of Galilee.[c](O) It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas(P) (also known as Didymus[d]), Nathanael(Q) from Cana in Galilee,(R) the sons of Zebedee,(S) and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.(T)

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.(U)

He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.(V)

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved(W) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[e] When they landed, they saw a fire(X) of burning coals there with fish on it,(Y) and some bread.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.(Z) 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples(AA) after he was raised from the dead.
