Ang Tinuoray nga Pagpuasa
58 Miingon ang Ginoo, “Singgit kamog kusog, sama kakusog sa budyong! Ayaw ninyo kinig pugngi! Ipahibalo sa akong katawhan nga mga kaliwat ni Jacob ang ilang mga sala ug mga kalapasan. 2 Nagadangop sila kanako adlaw-adlaw, ug nagpakita nga gusto gayod silang masayod sa akong mga pamaagi. Kon tan-awon morag matarong sila nga nasod ug wala mosalikway sa akong mga sugo. Gipakita nila nga gusto gayod nilang moduol kanako ug mangayog matarong nga paghukom. 3 Miingon pa sila, ‘Nagpuasa kami, apan wala ka magtagad. Nagpenitensya kami, apan wala ka magpakabana.’
“Mitubag ako: Ang tinuod, samtang nagapuasa kamo, ang inyong kaugalingon lang nga kalipay ang inyong gihunahuna, ug ang inyong mga trabahante inyong gidaog-daog. 4 Nagapuasa tuod kamo, apan nanggiaway ug nanggilalis kamo, ug nagsinumbagay pa. Ayaw kamo paghunahuna nga ang pagpuasa nga gihimo ninyo karon makatabang aron paminawon ko ang inyong mga pag-ampo. 5 Kon magpuasa kamo, nagapenitensya kunohay kamo. Nagaduko ang inyong mga ulo nga daw kugon, ug nagahigda kamo sa abo nga nagabistig sako. Mao ba kana ang gitawag ninyong puasa? Nagahunahuna ba kamo nga makapalipay na kana kanako? 6 Ang matang sa puasa nga gusto ko mao ang puasa nga inubanan sa matarong ug husto nga kinaiya. Hunonga ninyo ang pagpangdaog-daog ug ang pagpabilanggo sa mga inosente, ug hatagi ninyo ug kagawasan ang mga dinaog-daog. 7 Hatagi ninyog pagkaon ang mga gigutom. Papuy-a ninyo sa inyong balay ang mga walay puloy-anan. Bistihi ninyo ang mga walay bisti. Tabangi ang inyong mga paryente nga nanginahanglan. 8 Kon himuon ninyo kini, moabot kaninyo ang kaluwasan[a] sama sa nagasidlak nga adlaw, ug ayohon ko kamo diha-diha. Ako, nga inyong matarong nga Dios, magauna kaninyo ug panalipdan ko kamo sa akong gahom. 9 Kon manawag kamo kanako sa pagpangayo ug tabang, tubagon ko kamo.
“Kon undangan na ninyo ang pagpangdaog-daog, ang pagpamasangil nga tinumotumo, ug ang pagsultig daotan, 10 ug kon pakan-on ninyo ang mga gigutom ug hatagan ang mga kabos sa ilang mga gikinahanglan, moabot kaninyo ang kaluwasan nga magasidlak sa kangitngit, ug ang gabii kaninyo morag udtong tutok. 11 Giyahan ko kamo kanunay. Hatagan ko kamog katagbawan bisag lisod ang inyong kahimtang.[b] Himuon ko kamong himsog. Mahisama kamo sa usa ka hardin nga abunda sa tubig, o sama sa tuboran nga walay pagkahubas. 12 Tukoron pag-usab sa inyong mga kaliwat ang inyong mga lungsod nga dugay nang nangaguba, ug pabarogon nila ang karaan nga mga patukoranan. Tawgon kamong katawhan nga tig-ayo sa nangagubang mga paril ug kabalayan.
13 “Tumana ninyo ang akong mga ginapahimo sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay. Ayaw ninyo buhata ang mga butang nga alang lang sa inyong kaugalingon nga kalipay nianang pinasahi nga adlaw. Ikalipay ninyo ang Adlaw nga Igpapahulay, ug pasidunggi ninyo kini pinaagi sa dili pagpatuyang sa inyong gusto ug kalipay, ug dili pagsultig mga walay pulos. 14 Kon himuon ninyo kini, magmalipayon kamo sa inyong pagpangalagad kanako. Pasidunggan ko pa kamo sa tibuok kalibotan, ug tagbawon ko kamo sa mga ani sa yuta nga gipanunod sa inyong katigulangan nga si Jacob. Mahitabo gayod ini, kay ako, ang Ginoo, ang nagaingon niini.”

True Fasting
58 “Shout it aloud,(A) do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.(B)
Declare to my people their rebellion(C)
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.(D)
2 For day after day they seek(E) me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken(F) the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near(G) them.
3 ‘Why have we fasted,’(H) they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled(I) ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’(J)
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please(K)
and exploit all your workers.
4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,(L)
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard(M) on high.
5 Is this the kind of fast(N) I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble(O) themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed(P)
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?(Q)
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?
6 “Is not this the kind of fasting(R) I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice(S)
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed(T) free
and break every yoke?(U)
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry(V)
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter(W)—
when you see the naked, to clothe(X) them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?(Y)
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,(Z)
and your healing(AA) will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a](AB) will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.(AC)
9 Then you will call,(AD) and the Lord will answer;(AE)
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger(AF) and malicious talk,(AG)
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,(AH)
then your light(AI) will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.(AJ)
11 The Lord will guide(AK) you always;
he will satisfy your needs(AL) in a sun-scorched land(AM)
and will strengthen(AN) your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,(AO)
like a spring(AP) whose waters never fail.
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins(AQ)
and will raise up the age-old foundations;(AR)
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,(AS)
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath(AT)
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight(AU)
and the Lord’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,(AV)
14 then you will find your joy(AW) in the Lord,
and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights(AX) of the land
and to feast on the inheritance(AY) of your father Jacob.”
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.(AZ)

58 Ropa ut det högt som ljudet av trumpetstötar! Låt mitt folk få veta att de är upproriska!
2 Ändå uppträder de så gudfruktigt! De kommer till templet varje dag och är så angelägna att lyssna när min lag föreläses, precis som om de tänkte lyda den och inte alls föraktade sin Guds befallningar! De är så angelägna att tillbe på rätt sätt, och de verkar uppskatta gudstjänsterna i templet.
3 Vi har fastat inför dig, säger de. Är du inte glad för det? Varför ser du inte våra offer? Varför hör du inte våra böner? Vi har böjt oss för dig, och du har inte ens lagt märke till det!Jag ska tala om anledningen för er. Ni lever i era syndiga nöjen till och med när ni fastar, och ni förtrycker dem som arbetar för er.
4 Vad har fastan för mening när ni fortsätter att strida och gräla? En sådan fasta tilltalar inte mig.
5 Inte betyder det något för mig att ni böjer era huvuden för mig en stund, ni svajar ju ändå hela tiden fram och tillbaka? Att ta på sig kläder av säcktyg och strö aska i håret, skulle det vara att fasta?
6 Nej, den fasta jag vill ha är att ni slutar upp med att förtrycka andra och behandla dem väl som arbetar åt er.
7 Jag vill att ni ska dela er mat med de hungriga och släppa in hjälplösa, utslagna och fattiga i era hem. Ge kläder till dem som fryser och håll er inte undan för släktingar som behöver er hjälp!
8 Om ni handlar så som Gud förväntar sig av er, ska han låta sin härlighet lysa över er. Er rättfärdighet ska leda er fram. Er godhet ska vara er sköld, och Herrens härlighet ska skydda er.
9 Då ska Herren svara omedelbart när ni ber till honom. Ja, här är jag, ska han svara. Allt ni behöver göra är att sluta förtrycka de svaga, att inte komma med grova anklagelser och sprida falska rykten!
10 Mätta de hungriga! Hjälp dem som är i svårigheter! Då ska ditt ljus lysa i mörkret, och mörkret omkring dig ska bli som en ljus dag.
11 Herren ska fortsätta att leda dig och låta dig få uppleva mycket gott. Du ska få vara frisk. Du kommer att vara som en nyvattnad trädgård, som en källa där vattnet aldrig tar slut.
12 Dina söner ska bygga upp städerna som så länge legat i ruiner, och du ska bli känd som 'Folket som bygger upp sina murar och städer'.
13 Om du håller sabbaten helig och inte gör bara vad du har lust med, utan är mån om den och talar med glädje om den som Herrens heliga dag, och om du ärar Herren med det som du gör och inte följer dina egna önskningar och inte talar lättsinnigt,
14 då ska Herren själv bli din glädje. Då ska jag ära dig över hela världen, så att du får alla de välsignelser jag lovade din förfader Jakob. Herren har talat.

Fasting that Pleases God
58 “Cry aloud, [a]spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
(A)Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they seek Me daily,
And delight to know My ways,
As a nation that did righteousness,
And did not forsake the ordinance of their God.
They ask of Me the ordinances of justice;
They take delight in approaching God.
3 ‘Why(B) have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen?
Why have we (C)afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’
“In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
And [b]exploit all your laborers.
4 (D)Indeed you fast for strife and debate,
And to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You will not fast as you do this day,
To make your voice heard on high.
5 Is (E)it a fast that I have chosen,
(F)A day for a man to afflict his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush,
And (G)to spread out sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast,
And an acceptable day to the Lord?
6 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To (H)loose the bonds of wickedness,
(I)To undo the [c]heavy burdens,
(J)To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7 Is it not (K)to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are [d]cast out;
(L)When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from (M)your own flesh?
8 (N)Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
(O)The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
“If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The [e]pointing of the finger, and (P)speaking wickedness,
10 If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your [f]darkness shall be as the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
12 Those from among you
(Q)Shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,
The Restorer of [g]Streets to Dwell In.
13 “If (R)you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
14 (S)Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to (T)ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
