Hahatulan ang Babilonia
47 Sinabi(A) ni Yahweh sa Babilonia,
“Bumabâ ka sa iyong trono, at maupo ka sa alabok ng lupa.
Dati'y para kang birhen, isang lunsod na hindi malupig.
Ngunit hindi ka na ganoon ngayon,
isa ka nang alipin!
2 Hawakan mo ang batong gilingan at ikaw ay gumiling ng harina.
Alisin mo na ang iyong belo, at hubarin ang magarang kasuotan;
itaas mo ang iyong saya sa pagtawid sa batisan.
3 Malalantad sa mga tao ang hubad mong katawan,
mabubunyag ang kahiya-hiya mong kalagayan.
Walang makakapigil sa aking gagawin.
Ako'y maghihiganti.”
4 Ang Diyos ang siyang nagligtas sa amin, siya ang Banal na Diyos ng Israel.
Ang pangalan niya ay Yahweh, ang Makapangyarihan sa lahat.
5 Sinabi ni Yahweh sa Babilonia,
“Maupo ka na lang at manahimik doon sa dilim,
sapagkat ikaw ay hindi na tatawaging reyna ng mga kaharian.
6 Nang ako'y magalit sa mga lingkod ko,
sila'y aking itinakwil;
aking pinabayaan na masakop mo at maging alipin.
Pinarusahan mo silang walang awa,
pati matatanda'y pinagmalupitan mo.
7 Sapagkat akala mo'y mananatili kang reyna habang panahon.
Hindi mo na naisip na magwawakas ito pagdating ng araw.
8 “Pakinggan(B) mo ito, ikaw na mahilig sa kalayawan,
at nag-aakalang ikaw ay matiwasay.
Ang palagay mo sa sarili'y kasindakila ka ng Diyos,
at ang paniwala mo'y wala kang katulad;
inakala mong hindi ka mabibiyuda,
at hindi mo mararanasan ang mamatayan ng anak.
9 Ngunit isang araw, sa loob lamang ng isang saglit,
anumang salamangka o mahika ang iyong gawin,
mangyayari ang dalawang bagay na ito:
Mawawala ang iyong asawa at ang iyong mga anak!
10 “Panatag ka sa paggawa ng kasamaan;
sapagkat iniisip mong walang nakakakita sa iyo.
Iniligaw ka ng iyong karunungan at kaalaman,
ang palagay mo sa sarili'y ikaw ang Diyos,
wala nang hihigit pa sa iyo.
11 Ngunit darating sa iyo ang kapahamakan,
at walang makakahadlang kahit ang nalalaman mo sa salamangka;
darating sa iyo ang sumpa, at hindi mo ito maiiwasan.
Biglang darating sa iyo ang pagkawasak,
na hindi mo akalaing mangyayari.
12 “Itago mo na lang ang salamangkang alam mo mula pa sa iyong kabataan,
baka sakaling magamit mo pa iyan bilang panakot sa iyong kaaway.
13 Wala kang magagawa sa kabila ng maraming payo sa iyo;
patulong ka man sa inaasahan mong mga astrologo,
sa mga taong humuhula ng mangyayari bukas, batay sa kalagayan ng kalangitan at mga bituin.
14 “Sila'y parang dayaming masusunog,
kahit ang sarili nila'y hindi maililigtas sa init ng apoy;
sapagkat ito'y hindi karaniwang init
na pampaalis ng ginaw.
15 Walang maitutulong sa iyo ang mga astrologo
na hinihingan mo ng payo sa buong buhay mo.
Sapagkat ikaw ay iiwan na nila,
walang matitira upang iligtas ka.”

47 “Come down, and sit in the dust,
you virgin daughter of Bavel!
Sit on the ground, not on a throne,
daughter of the Kasdim!
No longer are you to be called
dainty and delicate.
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal;
take off your veil, strip off your skirt,
uncover your legs, wade through the streams.
3 Your private parts will be exposed;
yes, your shame will be seen.
I am going to take vengeance,
and no one will stand in my way.”
4 Our Redeemer! Adonai-Tzva’ot is his name,
the Holy One of Isra’el!
5 “Sit there speechless, go into darkness,
you daughter of the Kasdim!
For you will no longer be called
the mistress of kingdoms.
6 I was angry with my people,
I desecrated my own possession
and gave them over to you.
But you showed them no mercy;
you made your yoke very heavy,
even upon the aged.
7 You said, ‘I will be mistress forever.’
so you didn’t consider these things
or think about the consequences.
8 Now hear this, you lover of luxuries,
lolling at ease and saying to yourself,
‘I am important, and no one else!
I will never be a widow
or know the loss of children.’
9 But both will come over you in an instant,
in a single day loss of children and widowhood;
they will utterly overwhelm you,
despite your many occult practices
and powerful spells to prevent it.”
10 You were at ease in your wickedness,
you thought, “No one sees me.”
Your “wisdom” and “knowledge” perverted you,
as you thought to yourself,
“I am important, and no one else.”
11 Yet disaster will befall you,
and you won’t know how to charm it away;
calamity will come upon you,
and you won’t be able to turn it aside;
ruin will overcome you,
suddenly, before you know it.
12 So for now, keep on with your powerful spells
and your many occult practices;
from childhood you have been working at them;
maybe they will do you some good,
maybe you will inspire terror!
13 You are worn out with all your consultations —
so let the astrologers and stargazers,
the monthly horoscope-makers,
come forward now and save you
from the things that will come upon you!
14 Look, they will be like straw!
The fire will consume them.
They will not save even themselves
from the power of the flame.
It will not be coals for warming oneself,
not a fire to sit beside!
15 So much for your [wizards],
with whom you have worked all your life!
Each will wander off in his own direction,
and nobody will save you.

47 “Go down, sit in the dust,(A)
Virgin Daughter(B) Babylon;
sit on the ground without a throne,
queen city of the Babylonians.[a](C)
No more will you be called
tender or delicate.(D)
2 Take millstones(E) and grind(F) flour;
take off your veil.(G)
Lift up your skirts,(H) bare your legs,
and wade through the streams.
3 Your nakedness(I) will be exposed
and your shame(J) uncovered.
I will take vengeance;(K)
I will spare no one.(L)”
5 “Sit in silence,(Q) go into darkness,(R)
queen city of the Babylonians;(S)
no more will you be called
queen(T) of kingdoms.(U)
6 I was angry(V) with my people
and desecrated my inheritance;(W)
I gave them into your hand,(X)
and you showed them no mercy.(Y)
Even on the aged
you laid a very heavy yoke.
7 You said, ‘I am forever(Z)—
the eternal queen!’(AA)
But you did not consider these things
or reflect(AB) on what might happen.(AC)
8 “Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure,
lounging in your security(AD)
and saying to yourself,
‘I am, and there is none besides me.(AE)
I will never be a widow(AF)
or suffer the loss of children.’
9 Both of these will overtake you
in a moment,(AG) on a single day:
loss of children(AH) and widowhood.(AI)
They will come upon you in full measure,
in spite of your many sorceries(AJ)
and all your potent spells.(AK)
10 You have trusted(AL) in your wickedness
and have said, ‘No one sees me.’(AM)
Your wisdom(AN) and knowledge mislead(AO) you
when you say to yourself,
‘I am, and there is none besides me.’
11 Disaster(AP) will come upon you,
and you will not know how to conjure it away.
A calamity will fall upon you
that you cannot ward off with a ransom;
a catastrophe you cannot foresee
will suddenly(AQ) come upon you.
12 “Keep on, then, with your magic spells
and with your many sorceries,(AR)
which you have labored at since childhood.
Perhaps you will succeed,
perhaps you will cause terror.
13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out!(AS)
Let your astrologers(AT) come forward,
those stargazers who make predictions month by month,
let them save(AU) you from what is coming upon you.
14 Surely they are like stubble;(AV)
the fire(AW) will burn them up.
They cannot even save themselves
from the power of the flame.(AX)
These are not coals for warmth;
this is not a fire to sit by.
15 That is all they are to you—
these you have dealt with
and labored(AY) with since childhood.
All of them go on in their error;
there is not one that can save(AZ) you.

2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
4 As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.
6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
