40 Inyong aliwin, inyong aliwin ang aking bayan, sabi ng inyong Dios.

Mangagsalita kayong may pagaliw sa Jerusalem; at sigawan ninyo siya, na ang kaniyang pakikipagdigma ay naganap, na ang kaniyang kasamaan ay ipinatawad, sapagka't siya'y tumanggap sa kamay ng Panginoon ng ibayong ukol sa kaniyang lahat na kasalanan.

40 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Comfort for God’s People

40 Comfort, comfort(A) my people,
    says your God.
Speak tenderly(B) to Jerusalem,
    and proclaim to her
that her hard service(C) has been completed,(D)
    that her sin has been paid for,(E)
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double(F) for all her sins.

A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
    the way(G) for the Lord[a];
make straight(H) in the desert
    a highway for our God.[b](I)

    that her penalty has been paid,
    that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins!

A voice is crying out:
“Clear the Lord’s way in the desert!
    Make a level highway in the wilderness for our God!
