13 Yet the people (A)do not turn back to Him who struck them,
Nor do they (B)seek Yahweh of hosts.
14 So Yahweh cuts off (C)head and tail from Israel,
Both palm branch and bulrush (D)in a single day.
15 The head is (E)the elder and the [a]highly respected man,
And the prophet who teaches (F)falsehood is the tail.
16 (G)For those who guide this people are leading them astray;
And those who are guided by them are [b]brought to confusion.
17 Therefore the Lord (H)is not glad in their choice men,
(I)Nor does He have compassion on their [c]orphans or their widows;
For every one of them is (J)godless and an (K)evildoer,
And every (L)mouth is speaking wicked foolishness.
(M)In spite of all this, His anger does not turn back,
And His hand is still stretched out.

13 The people did not turn to him who struck them;
they did not seek the Lord of Armies.
14 So the Lord cut off Israel’s head and tail,(A)
palm branch and reed in a single day.
15 The head is the elder, the honored one;(B)
the tail is the prophet, the one teaching lies.(C)
16 The leaders of the people mislead them,
and those they mislead are swallowed up.[a]
17 Therefore the Lord does not rejoice
over[b] Israel’s young men
and has no compassion
on its fatherless and widows,
for everyone is a godless evildoer,(D)
and every mouth speaks folly.
In all this, his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is still raised to strike.
