⁵³ You ^(A)are not greater than our father Abraham, who died, are You? The prophets died too. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?” ⁵⁴ Jesus answered, “^(B)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; ^(C)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; ⁵⁵ and ^(D)you have not come to know Him, ^(E)but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be ^(F)a liar like you; ^(G)but I do know Him, and I ^(H)follow His word. ^56 (I)Your father Abraham was ^(J)overjoyed that he would see My day, and he saw it and rejoiced.” ^57 (K)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?” ⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham ^[a]was born, ^[b](L)I am.”

³⁷ Now on ^(A)the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “^(B)If anyone is thirsty, ^[a]let him come to Me and drink. ³⁸ The one who believes in Me, ^(C)as the Scripture said, ‘^[b]From his innermost being will flow rivers of ^(D)living water.’” ³⁹ But this He said ^(E)in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for ^(F)the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet ^(G)glorified.

People’s Division over Jesus

⁴⁰ Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying, “This truly is ^(H)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others were saying, “This is the ^[c]Christ.” But others were saying, “^(I)Surely the ^[d]Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He? ⁴² Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from ^(J)the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” ⁴³ So ^(K)a dissension occurred in the crowd because of Him. ⁴⁴ And ^(L)some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

⁴⁵ The ^(M)officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” ⁴⁶ The ^(N)officers answered, “^(O)Never has a man spoken in this way!”

⁹ Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with ^[a]you for so long a time, and yet ^[b]you have not come to know Me, Philip? ^(A)The one who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ Do you not believe that ^(B)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? ^(C)The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own, but the Father, as He remains in Me, does His works. ¹¹ Believe Me that ^(D)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise ^(E)believe because of the works themselves.

²⁸ and I give them ^(A)eternal life, and they will never perish; and ^(B)no one will snatch them out of My hand. ^29 [a]My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. ^30 (C)I and the Father are ^[b]one.”

^3 (A)Every place on which the sole of your foot steps, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.

¹⁵ For we do not have ^(A)a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been ^(B)tempted in all things just as we are, yet ^(C)without sin.
