⁴ For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,^(A)
    you have shattered^(B)
the yoke^(C) that burdens them,
    the bar across their shoulders,^(D)
    the rod of their oppressor.^(E)

²⁵ I will crush the Assyrian^(A) in my land;
    on my mountains I will trample him down.
His yoke^(B) will be taken from my people,
    and his burden removed from their shoulders.^(C)”

²⁶ The Lord Almighty will lash^(A) them with a whip,
    as when he struck down Midian^(B) at the rock of Oreb;
and he will raise his staff^(C) over the waters,^(D)
    as he did in Egypt.
²⁷ In that day^(E) their burden^(F) will be lifted from your shoulders,
    their yoke^(G) from your neck;^(H)
the yoke^(I) will be broken
    because you have grown so fat.^[a]

⁸ “‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty,
    ‘I will break the yoke^(A) off their necks
and will tear off their bonds;^(B)
    no longer will foreigners enslave them.^(C)

¹³ Now I will break their yoke^(A) from your neck
    and tear your shackles away.”^(B)

¹⁴ In righteousness^(A) you will be established:^(B)
Tyranny^(C) will be far from you;
    you will have nothing to fear.^(D)
Terror^(E) will be far removed;
    it will not come near you.

²⁶ I will make your oppressors^(A) eat^(B) their own flesh;
    they will be drunk on their own blood,^(C) as with wine.
Then all mankind will know^(D)
    that I, the Lord, am your Savior,^(E)
    your Redeemer,^(F) the Mighty One of Jacob.^(G)”

³¹ The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria;^(A)
    with his rod he will strike^(B) them down.
³² Every stroke the Lord lays on them
    with his punishing club^(C)
will be to the music of timbrels^(D) and harps,
    as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.^(E)
