Isaiah 8:19-22

19 Now if people say to you, “Consult the ghosts and the familiar spirits that chirp and mutter; should not a people consult their gods, the dead on behalf of the living,(A) 20 for teaching and for instruction?” surely those who speak like this will have no dawn!(B) 21 They will pass through the land,[a] greatly distressed and hungry; when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will curse[b] their king and their gods. They will turn their faces upward,(C) 22 or they will look to the earth, but they will see only distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, and they will be thrust into thick darkness.[c](D)

19 When they say to you, “Consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who chirp and mutter,”(A) shouldn’t a people consult their God?[a] Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?(B) 20 To the law and to the testimony!(C) If they do not speak according to this word, there will be no dawn for them.
21 They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 They will look toward the earth(D) and see only distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction, and they will be driven into thick darkness.
