Isaiah Sent to King Ahaz(A)
7 Now it came to pass in the days of (B)Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to make war against (C)it, but could not [a]prevail against it. 2 And it was told to the house of David, saying, “Syria’s forces are [b]deployed in Ephraim.” So his heart and the heart of his people were moved as the trees of the woods are moved with the wind.
3 Then the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and [c]Shear-Jashub your son, at the end of the aqueduct from the upper pool, on the highway to the Fuller’s Field, 4 and say to him: [d]‘Take heed, and [e]be (D)quiet; do not fear or be fainthearted for these two stubs of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and the son of Remaliah. 5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have plotted evil against you, saying, 6 “Let us go up against Judah and [f]trouble it, and let us make a gap in its wall for ourselves, and set a king over them, the son of Tabel”— 7 thus says the Lord God:
(E)“It shall not stand,
Nor shall it come to pass.
8 (F)For the head of Syria is Damascus,
And the head of Damascus is Rezin.
Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be [g]broken,
So that it will not be a people.
9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,
And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son.
(G)If you will not believe,
Surely you shall not be established.” ’ ”
The Immanuel Prophecy
10 Moreover the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 (H)“Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; [h]ask it either in the depth or in the height above.”
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”
13 Then he said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: (I)Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear (J)a Son, and shall call His name (K)Immanuel.[i] 15 Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. 16 (L)For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread will be forsaken by (M)both her kings. 17 (N)The Lord will bring the king of Assyria upon you and your people and your father’s house—days that have not come since the day that (O)Ephraim departed from Judah.”
18 And it shall come to pass in that day
That the Lord (P)will whistle for the fly
That is in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt,
And for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
19 They will come, and all of them will rest
In the desolate valleys and in (Q)the clefts of the rocks,
And on all thorns and in all pastures.
20 In the same day the Lord will shave with a (R)hired (S)razor,
With those from beyond [j]the River, with the king of Assyria,
The head and the hair of the legs,
And will also remove the beard.
21 It shall be in that day
That a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep;
22 So it shall be, from the abundance of milk they give,
That he will eat curds;
For curds and honey everyone will eat who is left in the land.
23 It shall happen in that day,
That wherever there could be a thousand vines
Worth a thousand shekels of silver,
(T)It will be for briers and thorns.
24 With arrows and bows men will come there,
Because all the land will become briers and thorns.
25 And to any hill which could be dug with the hoe,
You will not go there for fear of briers and thorns;
But it will become a range for oxen
And a place for sheep to roam.

Problemas con Siria
7 Durante el reinado en Judá del rey Acaz, hijo de Jotán y nieto de Uzías, los reyes Rezín de Siria y Pecaj hijo de Remalías[a] de Israel, marcharon contra Jerusalén para atacarla, pero no pudieron tomar la ciudad. 2 La familia de David[b] recibió el informe de que Siria se había aliado con Efraín, lo cual hizo que tanto Acaz como su pueblo se atemorizaran y temblaran de miedo, como los árboles de un bosque cuando los azota el viento.
3 Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo a Isaías: «Ve con tu hijo Sear Yasub[c] a entrevistarte con Acaz en el lugar donde termina el canal del estanque superior, en el camino que va al Campo del Lavandero, 4 y dile: “Ten cuidado y no pierdas la calma. No tengas miedo ni te desanimes por causa de esos dos leños humeantes. No temas la furia de Rezín el sirio ni tampoco al hijo de Remalías. 5 Siria junto con Efraín y el hijo de Remalías han hecho planes contra ti. Ellos han dicho: 6 Ataquemos a Judá, que cunda el pánico, repartámosla entre nosotros y pongamos allí por rey al hijo de Tabel”. 7 Pero el Señor DIOS dice:
»Ese plan no tendrá éxito,
no podrá llevarse a cabo.
8 La cabeza de Siria es Damasco,
la cabeza de Damasco es Rezín.
Dentro de 65 años
Efraín será destruido
y dejará de ser una nación.
9 La cabeza de Efraín es Samaria,
la cabeza de Samaria es el hijo de Remalías.
Si ustedes no se mantienen firmes en su fe,
no podrán permanecer firmes en nada».
Emanuel, Dios con nosotros
10 El SEÑOR le dijo también a Acaz:
11 —Pídele al SEÑOR tu Dios una señal en lo profundo del lugar de los muertos o en las alturas de los cielos.
12 Pero Acaz dijo:
—Yo no le voy a pedir nada al SEÑOR, no lo voy a poner a prueba.
13 Entonces Isaías dijo:
—Escuchen, los de la familia de David: ¿No les basta con agotar la paciencia de los seres humanos? ¿Quieren ahora agotar también la paciencia de Dios? 14 Por tanto, el Señor les dará una señal:
»Miren, la joven quedará embarazada
y dará a luz un hijo,[d]
al que llamará Emanuel[e].
15 Se alimentará de cuajada con miel
hasta que tenga uso de razón.
16 Y antes de que el niño tenga uso de razón,
ya la tierra de esos dos reyes a los que tanto temes,
quedará desolada.
17 »Pero el SEÑOR traerá un tiempo de angustia contra ti,
contra tu pueblo y contra la familia de tu padre,
el cual no se ha visto desde que Efraín[f] se separó de Judá;
traerá contra ti al rey de Asiria».
18 Ese día, el SEÑOR silbará llamando a la «Mosca»
que está en los ríos lejanos de Egipto
y a la «Abeja» que está en territorio de Asiria.
19 Todas ellas vendrán y se instalarán
en las quebradas profundas,
en las hendiduras de las rocas,
en todos los matorrales espinosos
y en todos los sitios donde bebe el ganado.
20 Ese día, el Señor tomará de más allá del río Éufrates al rey de Asiria,
como quien toma prestada una navaja,
y le afeitará a Israel la cabeza,
la barba y el vello de los pies.[g]
21 Ese día, el que críe una ternera y dos cabras 22 tendrá suficiente leche como para poder comer leche cuajada. Todo el que sobreviva podrá comer cuajada y miel.
23 Ese día, en todo lugar donde hubo 1000 viñedos que costaban 1000 monedas[h] de plata cada uno, sólo quedarán matorrales y espinos. 24 Sólo se podrá entrar allí de cacería, con arco y flechas, porque todo el país estará cubierto de matorrales y espinos. 25 Ya no se podrá ir a los montes a donde la gente iba a cultivar con azadón, porque estarán llenos de matorrales y espinos; se usarán para dejar suelto el ganado y para que corran las ovejas.

The Sign of Immanuel
7 When Ahaz(A) son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin(B) of Aram(C) and Pekah(D) son of Remaliah(E) king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.
2 Now the house of David(F) was told, “Aram has allied itself with[a] Ephraim(G)”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken,(H) as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.
3 Then the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub,[b](I) to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field.(J) 4 Say to him, ‘Be careful, keep calm(K) and don’t be afraid.(L) Do not lose heart(M) because of these two smoldering stubs(N) of firewood—because of the fierce anger(O) of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.(P) 5 Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s(Q) son have plotted(R) your ruin, saying, 6 “Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.” 7 Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says:(S)
“‘It will not take place,
it will not happen,(T)
8 for the head of Aram is Damascus,(U)
and the head of Damascus is only Rezin.(V)
Within sixty-five years
Ephraim will be too shattered(W) to be a people.
9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,(X)
and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son.
If you do not stand(Y) firm in your faith,(Z)
you will not stand at all.’”(AA)
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign,(AB) whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.(AC)”
12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.(AD)”
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David!(AE) Is it not enough(AF) to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience(AG) of my God(AH) also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you[c] a sign:(AI) The virgin[d](AJ) will conceive and give birth to a son,(AK) and[e] will call him Immanuel.[f](AL) 15 He will be eating curds(AM) and honey(AN) when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, 16 for before the boy knows(AO) enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,(AP) the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.(AQ) 17 The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away(AR) from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.(AS)”
Assyria, the Lord’s Instrument
18 In that day(AT) the Lord will whistle(AU) for flies from the Nile delta in Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.(AV) 19 They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices(AW) in the rocks, on all the thornbushes(AX) and at all the water holes. 20 In that day(AY) the Lord will use(AZ) a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates River(BA)—the king of Assyria(BB)—to shave your head and private parts, and to cut off your beard(BC) also.(BD) 21 In that day,(BE) a person will keep alive a young cow and two goats.(BF) 22 And because of the abundance of the milk they give, there will be curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds(BG) and honey.(BH) 23 In that day,(BI) in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels,[g](BJ) there will be only briers and thorns.(BK) 24 Hunters will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers(BL) and thorns. 25 As for all the hills(BM) once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns;(BN) they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.(BO)
