When it became known to the house of David(A) that Aram had occupied Ephraim,(B) the heart of Ahaz[a] and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

The Lord said to Isaiah, ‘Go out with your son Shear-jashub[b](C) to meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool,(D) by the road to the Launderer’s Field. Say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Don’t be afraid or cowardly(E) because of these two smouldering sticks, the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram, and the son of Remaliah.

And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
