Isaiah 7:14-17

New International Version

¹⁴Therefore the Lord himself will give you^[a] a sign:^(A) The virgin^[b]^(B) will conceive and give birth to a son,^(C) and^[c] will call him Immanuel.^[d]^(D) ¹⁵He will be eating curds^(E) and honey^(F) when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, ¹⁶for before the boy knows^(G) enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,^(H) the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.^(I) ¹⁷The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away^(J) from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.^(K)”

40 Comfort, comfort^(A) my people,
    says your God.
²Speak tenderly^(B) to Jerusalem,
    and proclaim to her
that her hard service^(C) has been completed,^(D)
    that her sin has been paid for,^(E)
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double^(F) for all her sins.
