64 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
9 Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.
10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Lord? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

64 ¡Oh, si rasgaras los cielos y descendieras!
¡Las montañas temblarían ante ti,
2 como cuando el fuego enciende la leña
y hace que hierva el agua!
Así darías a conocer tu nombre entre tus enemigos,
y ante ti temblarían las naciones.
3 Hiciste maravillas asombrosas cuando descendiste;
ante tu presencia temblaron las montañas.
4 Fuera de ti, desde tiempos antiguos
nadie ha escuchado ni percibido,
ni ojo alguno ha visto,
a un Dios que como tú actúe en favor de quienes en él esperan.
5 Sales al encuentro de los que, alegres,
practican la justicia y recuerdan tus caminos.
Pero te enojas si persistimos
en desviarnos de ellos.[a]
¿Cómo podremos ser salvos?
6 Todos somos como gente impura;
todos nuestros actos de justicia son como trapos de inmundicia.
Todos nos marchitamos como hojas;
nuestras iniquidades nos arrastran como el viento.
7 Nadie invoca tu nombre
ni se esfuerza por aferrarse a ti.
Pues nos has dado la espalda
y nos has entregado[b] en poder de nuestras iniquidades.
8 A pesar de todo, Señor, tú eres nuestro Padre;
nosotros somos el barro y tú el alfarero.
Todos somos obra de tu mano.
9 No te enojes demasiado, Señor;
no te acuerdes siempre de nuestras iniquidades.
¡Considera, por favor,
que todos somos tu pueblo!
10 Tus ciudades santas han quedado devastadas
y hasta Sión se ha vuelto un desierto;
Jerusalén ha quedado en ruinas.
11 Nuestro santo y glorioso Templo, donde te alababan nuestros antepasados,
ha sido devorado por el fuego.
Ha quedado en ruinas todo lo que más queríamos.
12 Ante todo esto, Señor, ¿no vas a hacer nada?
¿Vas a guardar silencio y afligirnos sin medida?

64 Komm mit Macht – so wie ein Feuer, das im Nu einen Reisighaufen verzehrt und Wasser zum Sieden bringt! Lass deine Gegner erfahren, wer du bist. Die Völker sollen vor dir zittern. 2 Denn du vollbringst so furchterregende Taten, wie wir sie uns nicht vorstellen können. Ja, komm doch herab, lass vor deiner Erscheinung die Berge ins Wanken geraten! 3 Denn noch nie ist einem so etwas zu Ohren gekommen. Seit die Erde besteht, hat noch niemand von einem Gott wie dir gehört oder einen Gott gesehen, der es mit dir aufnehmen könnte. Nur du kannst den Menschen, die auf dich vertrauen, wirklich helfen.
4 Du stehst dem bei, der mit Freude das Rechte tut, der sich nach deinen Geboten richtet und mit dir lebt. Aber auf uns, Herr, bist du zornig, und das mit Recht: Wir haben gesündigt und uns völlig in unsere Irrwege verrannt.[a] 5 In deinen Augen sind wir alle unrein geworden, selbst unsere guten Werke sind bloß ein schmutziges Kleid. Wegen unserer Sünden sind wir wie verdorrtes Laub, das zu Boden fällt und vom Wind weggeblasen wird.
6 Doch niemand sucht bei dir Hilfe, Herr. Keiner will an dir festhalten. Denn du selbst hast dich von uns abgewandt. Du lässt uns die Folgen unserer Sünden tragen und daran zerbrechen.
7 Dennoch bist du, Herr, unser Vater! Wir sind der Ton, und du bist der Töpfer! Wir alle sind Gefäße aus deiner Hand. 8 Ach, Herr, sei nicht für immer zornig auf uns! Trag es uns nicht ewig nach, dass wir gegen dich gesündigt haben! Sieh uns an, wir sind doch immer noch dein Volk. 9 Die Städte deines Heiligen Landes liegen verwüstet da. Jerusalem ist zerstört; von der einst prächtigen Stadt auf dem Berg Zion stehen nur noch Ruinen. 10 Und unser heiliger Tempel, dieser wunderbare Bau, in dem schon unsere Vorfahren dich angebetet haben – er ist ein Raub der Flammen geworden. Die vielen Stätten, an denen unser Herz hing, liegen unter den Trümmern begraben.
11 Herr, wie lange willst du noch warten? Wie lange schaust du noch schweigend zu? Willst du uns ganz im Elend versinken lassen?

2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze
and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name(D) known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake(E) before you!
3 For when you did awesome(F) things that we did not expect,
you came down, and the mountains trembled(G) before you.
4 Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,(H)
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.(I)
5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right,(J)
who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
you were angry.(K)
How then can we be saved?
6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,(L)
and all our righteous(M) acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,(N)
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.(O)
7 No one(P) calls on your name(Q)
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden(R) your face from us
and have given us over(S) to[b] our sins.
8 Yet you, Lord, are our Father.(T)
We are the clay, you are the potter;(U)
we are all the work of your hand.(V)
9 Do not be angry(W) beyond measure, Lord;
do not remember our sins(X) forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
for we are all your people.(Y)
10 Your sacred cities(Z) have become a wasteland;
even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.(AA)
11 Our holy and glorious temple,(AB) where our ancestors praised you,
has been burned with fire,
and all that we treasured(AC) lies in ruins.
12 After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back?(AD)
Will you keep silent(AE) and punish us beyond measure?
