Zion’s New Identity

62 For the sake of Zion I will not be silent,
    and for the sake of Jerusalem I will not maintain a quiet attitude,
until her righteousness goes out like the bright light,
    and her salvation burns like a torch.
And the nations shall see your righteousness,
    and all the kings your glory,
and you will be called[a] a new name
    that the mouth of Yahweh will designate.
And you shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of Yahweh,
    and a headband of royalty in the hand of your God.
It shall no longer be said of you, “Forsaken,”
    and it shall no longer be said of your land, “Desolation!”
but you will[b] be called “My Delight Is In Her,”
    and your land, “Married,”
for Yahweh delights in you,
    and your land shall be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
    so shall your sons marry you,
and as is the joy of the bridegroom over the bride,
    so shall your God rejoice over you.
I have appointed watchmen upon your walls, Jerusalem;
    all day and all night they shall never be silent.
You who profess Yahweh have no rest.
    And you must not give him rest until he establishes,
        and until he makes[c] Jerusalem an object of praise[d] in the earth.
Yahweh has sworn by his right hand,
    and by his mighty arm,[e]
“Surely I will never again give your grain as food to your enemies,[f]
    and surely foreigners[g] shall not drink your new wine at which you have labored.”
But those who gather it shall eat it, and they shall praise Yahweh,
    and those who gather it shall drink it in my holy courts.[h]
10 Pass through, pass through the gates!
    Make the way clear for[i] the people!
Pile up, pile up the highway; clear it of stones![j]
    Lift up an ensign over the peoples!

11 Look! Yahweh has proclaimed to the end of the earth:

Say to daughter Zion, “Look, your salvation is coming!
    Look, his reward is with him,
    and his reward before him.
12 And they shall call them “The Holy People,[k] The Redeemed Of Yahweh,”
    and you[l] shall be called “Sought After, A City Is Not Forsaken.”

62 1 The great desire that the Prophets have had for Christ’s coming. 6 The diligence of the Pastors to preach.

For Zion’s sake I will not [a]hold my tongue, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof break forth as the [b]light, and salvation thereof as a burning lamp.

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all Kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by [c]a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.

Thou shalt also be a [d]crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

It shall no more be said unto thee, [e]Forsaken, neither shall it be said anymore to thy land, Desolate, but thou shalt be called [f]Hephzibah, and thy land [g]Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee, and thy land shalt have an [h]husband.

For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons [i]marry thee: and as a bridegroom is glad of the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

I have set [j]watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which all the day and all the night continual shall not cease: [k]ye that are mindful of the Lord, keep not silence,

And give him no rest, till he repair, and until he set up Jerusalem the [l]praise of the world.

The Lord hath sworn by his right hand and by his strong arm, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies, and surely the sons of the strangers shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast labored.

But they that have gathered it, shall eat it, and praise the Lord, and the gatherers thereof shall drink it in the courts of my Sanctuary.

10 [m]Go through, go through the gates: prepare you the way for the people: cast up, cast up the way, and gather out the stones, and set up a standard for the people.

11 Behold, the Lord hath proclaimed unto the ends of the world, [n]tell the daughter Zion, Behold, thy Savior cometh: Behold, his wages is with him, and [o]his work is before him.

12 And they shall call them, The holy people, the redeemed of the Lord, and thou shalt be named, A [p]city sought out and not forsaken.

For as a young man marries a virgin,
So shall your sons marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
(H)So shall your God rejoice over you.

(I)I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They shall [f]never hold their peace day or night.
You who [g]make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
And give Him no rest till He establishes
And till He makes Jerusalem (J)a praise in the earth.

The Lord has sworn by His right hand
And by the arm of His strength:
“Surely I will no longer (K)give your grain
As food for your enemies;

For which you have labored.
