Isaiah's Vision of the Lord
6 In the year that (A)King Uzziah died I (B)saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train[a] of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had (C)six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
4 And (F)the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and (G)the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! (H)For I am lost; (I)for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the (J)King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he (K)touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for (L)us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people:
(M)“‘Keep on hearing,[c] but do not understand;
keep on seeing,[d] but do not perceive.’
10 (N)Make the heart of this people (O)dull,[e]
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
(P)lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
11 Then I said, (Q)“How long, O Lord?”
And he said:
“Until (R)cities lie waste
without inhabitant,
and houses without people,
and the land is a desolate waste,
12 and the Lord removes people far away,
and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
13 (S)And though a tenth remain in it,
it will be burned[f] again,
like a terebinth or an oak,
whose stump (T)remains
when it is felled.”
(U)The holy seed[g] is its stump.

6 Yo, Isaías, vi a Dios sentado en un trono muy alto, y el templo quedó cubierto bajo su capa. Esto me sucedió en el año en que murió el rey Ozías. 2 Vi además a unos serafines que volaban por encima de Dios. Cada uno tenía seis alas: con dos alas volaban, con otras dos se cubrían la cara, y con las otras dos se cubrían de la cintura para abajo. 3 Con fuerte voz se decían el uno al otro:
«Santo, santo, santo
es el Dios único de Israel,
el Dios del universo;
¡toda la tierra está llena de su poder!»
4 Mientras ellos alababan a Dios, temblaban las puertas del templo, y éste se llenó de humo. 5 Entonces exclamé:
«¡Ahora sí voy a morir!
Porque yo, que soy un hombre pecador
y vivo en medio de un pueblo pecador,
he visto al rey del universo,
al Dios todopoderoso».
6 En ese momento, uno de los serafines voló hacia mí. Traía en su mano unas tenazas, y en ellas llevaba una brasa que había tomado del fuego del altar. 7 Con esa brasa me tocó los labios, y me dijo:
«Esta brasa ha tocado tus labios.
Con ella, Dios ha quitado tu maldad
y ha perdonado tus pecados».
8 Enseguida oí la voz de Dios que decía:
«¿A quién voy a enviar?
¿Quién será mi mensajero?»
Yo respondí:
«Envíame a mí, yo seré tu mensajero».
9 Entonces Dios me dijo:
«Ve y dile a este pueblo:
“Por más que oigan, no van a entender;
por más que miren, no van comprender”.
10 »Confunde la mente de este pueblo;
que no pueda ver ni oír
ni tampoco entender.
Así no podrá arrepentirse,
y yo no lo perdonaré».
11 Entonces le pregunté:
«Dios mío, ¿por cuánto tiempo tendré que predicar?»
Dios me respondió:
«Hasta que todas las ciudades sean destruidas
y se queden sin habitantes;
hasta que en las casas no haya más gente
y los campos queden desiertos;
12 hasta que yo mande al pueblo fuera de su tierra,
y el país quede abandonado.
13 Y si de cien personas quedan sólo diez,
hasta esas diez serán destruidas.
Quedarán como el tronco de un árbol,
que recién ha sido cortado.
Pero unos pocos israelitas quedarán con vida,
y de ellos saldrá un pueblo obediente y fiel».

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
12 And the Lord have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.(M)
5 “Woe(N) to me!” I cried. “I am ruined!(O) For I am a man of unclean lips,(P) and I live among a people of unclean lips,(Q) and my eyes have seen(R) the King,(S) the Lord Almighty.”(T)
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal(U) in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips;(V) your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.(W)”
8 Then I heard the voice(X) of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?(Y) And who will go for us?(Z)”
And I said, “Here am I.(AA) Send me!”
9 He said, “Go(AB) and tell this people:
“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’(AC)
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;(AD)
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a](AE)
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,(AF)
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”(AG)
11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”(AH)
And he answered:
“Until the cities lie ruined(AI)
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted(AJ)
and the fields ruined and ravaged,(AK)
12 until the Lord has sent everyone far away(AL)
and the land is utterly forsaken.(AM)
13 And though a tenth remains(AN) in the land,
it will again be laid waste.(AO)
But as the terebinth and oak
leave stumps(AP) when they are cut down,
so the holy(AQ) seed will be the stump in the land.”(AR)
