11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning so that they may pursue (A)intoxicating drink,
Who stay up late in the evening so that wine may inflame them!
12 Their banquets are accompanied by lyre and (B)harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine;
But they (C)do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord,
Nor do they consider the work of His hands.

13 Therefore My people go into exile for their (D)lack of knowledge;
And their [a](E)nobles are famished,
And their multitude is parched with thirst.
14 Therefore (F)Sheol has enlarged its [b]throat and opened its mouth beyond measure;
And [c]Jerusalem’s splendor, her multitude, her noise of revelry, and the jubilant within her, descend into it.

12 At their feasts they have lyre, harp,
tambourine, flute, and wine.
They do not perceive the Lord’s actions,(B)
and they do not see the work of His hands.(C)

13 Therefore My people will go into exile
because they lack knowledge;(D)
her[a] dignitaries are starving,
and her[b] masses are parched with thirst.
14 Therefore Sheol enlarges its throat
and opens wide its enormous jaws,(E)
and down go Zion’s dignitaries, her masses,
her crowds, and those who carouse in her!
