^4 (A)No one calls in righteousness, and ^(B)no one seeks justice in truth.
They ^(C)trust in ^[a]confusion and speak worthlessness;
They ^(D)conceive trouble and give birth to wickedness.
⁵ They break open vipers’ eggs and ^(E)weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their eggs dies,
And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.
⁶ Their webs will not become a garment,
Nor will they ^(F)cover themselves with their works;
Their ^(G)works are works of wickedness,
And a ^(H)deed of violence is in their ^[b]hands.
^7 (I)Their feet run to evil,
And they are quick to shed innocent blood;
^(J)Their thoughts are thoughts of wickedness;
Devastation and destruction are in their highways.
⁸ They do not know the ^(K)way of peace,
And there is ^(L)no justice in their tracks;
They have made their paths crooked,
^(M)Whoever treads on ^[c]them does not know peace.

¹⁰ For the land is full of ^(A)adulterers;
For the land ^(B)mourns because of the curse.
The ^(C)pastures of the wilderness have dried up.
Their course also is evil,
And their might is not right.
¹¹ “For ^(D)both prophet and priest are polluted;
Even in My house I have found their evil,” declares Yahweh.
¹² “Therefore their way will be like ^(E)slippery paths to them;
They will be driven away into the ^(F)thick darkness and fall down in it;
For I will bring their ^(G)evil upon them,
The year of their ^[a]punishment,” declares Yahweh.
