²¹ “And as for me, ^(A)this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit that is upon you, ^(B)and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore.”

The New Covenant

^31 (A)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make ^(B)a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, ³² not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when ^(C)I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, ^(D)though I was their husband, declares the Lord. ^33 (E)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: ^(F)I will put my law within them, and I will write it ^(G)on their hearts. ^(H)And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ³⁴ And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ ^(I)for they shall all know me, ^(J)from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For ^(K)I will forgive their iniquity, and ^(L)I will remember their sin no more.”

^25 (A)I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from ^(B)all your uncleannesses, and ^(C)from all your idols ^(D)I will cleanse you. ²⁶ And I will give you ^(E)a new heart, and ^(F)a new spirit I will put within you. ^(G)And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ^27 (H)And I will put my Spirit within you, ^(I)and cause you to walk in my statutes and ^(J)be careful to obey my rules.^[a]

^38 (A)And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. ^39 (B)I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, ^(C)for their own good and the good of their children after them. ^40 (D)I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. ^(E)And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. ^41 (F)I will rejoice in doing them good, ^(G)and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.

⁶ But as it is, Christ^[a] has obtained a ministry that is ^(A)as much more excellent than the old as ^(B)the covenant ^(C)he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. ^7 (D)For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

⁸ For he finds fault with them when he says:^[b]

¹³ In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And ^(J)what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

¹⁷ Now the Lord^[a] is the Spirit, and where ^(A)the Spirit of the Lord is, there is ^(B)freedom. ¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, ^(C)beholding ^(D)the glory of the Lord,^{[b] (E)}are being transformed into the same image ^(F)from one degree of glory to another.^[c] For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
