58 Shout out, do not hold back!
Lift up your voice like a trumpet!
Announce to my people their rebellion,
to the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet day after day they seek me
and delight to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness
and did not forsake the ordinance of their God;
they ask of me righteous judgments,
they delight to draw near to God.
3 “Why do we fast, but you do not see?
Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice?”
Look, you serve your own interest on your fast day,
and oppress all your workers.
4 Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight
and to strike with a wicked fist.
Such fasting as you do today
will not make your voice heard on high.
5 Is such the fast that I choose,
a day to humble oneself?
Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush,
and to lie in sackcloth and ashes?
Will you call this a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?
6 Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover them,
and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
8 Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up quickly;
your vindicator[a] shall go before you,
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,
10 if you offer your food to the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,
then your light shall rise in the darkness
and your gloom be like the noonday.

58 (A)«Grida a piena gola, non ti trattenere, alza la tua voce come una tromba; dichiara al mio popolo le sue trasgressioni, alla casa di Giacobbe i suoi peccati.
2 Mi cercano giorno dopo giorno, prendono piacere a conoscere le mie vie, come una nazione che avesse praticato la giustizia e non avesse abbandonato la legge del suo Dio; mi domandano dei giudizi giusti, prendono piacere ad accostarsi a Dio.
3 “Perché”, dicono essi, “quando abbiamo digiunato, non ci hai visti? Quando ci siamo umiliati, non lo hai notato?” Ecco, nel giorno del vostro digiuno voi fate i vostri affari ed esigete che siano fatti tutti i vostri lavori.
4 Ecco, voi digiunate per litigare, per fare discussioni, e colpite con pugno malvagio; oggi voi non digiunate in modo da far ascoltare la vostra voce in alto.
5 È forse questo il digiuno di cui mi compiaccio, il giorno in cui l’uomo si umilia? Curvare la testa come un giunco, sdraiarsi sul sacco e sulla cenere, è dunque questo ciò che chiami digiuno, giorno gradito al Signore?
6 Il digiuno che io gradisco non è forse questo: che si spezzino le catene della malvagità, che si sciolgano i legami del giogo, che si lascino liberi gli oppressi e che si spezzi ogni tipo di giogo?
7 Non è forse questo: che tu divida il tuo pane con chi ha fame, che tu conduca a casa tua gli infelici privi di riparo, che quando vedi uno nudo tu lo copra e che tu non ti nasconda a colui che è carne della tua carne?
8 Allora la tua luce spunterà come l’aurora, la tua guarigione germoglierà prontamente; la tua giustizia ti precederà, la gloria del Signore sarà la tua retroguardia.
9 Allora chiamerai e il Signore ti risponderà; griderai ed egli dirà: “Eccomi!” Se tu togli di mezzo a te il giogo, il dito accusatore e il parlare con menzogna,
10 se tu supplisci ai bisogni dell’affamato e sazi l’afflitto, la tua luce spunterà nelle tenebre e la tua notte oscura sarà come il mezzogiorno;

58 Rufe aus voller Kehle, schone nicht! Erhebe deine Stimme wie ein Schopharhorn und verkündige meinem Volk seine Übertretungen und dem Haus Jakob seine Sünde!
2 Sie suchen mich Tag für Tag und begehren, meine Wege zu kennen, wie ein Volk, das Gerechtigkeit geübt und das Recht seines Gottes nicht verlassen hat; sie verlangen von mir gerechte Urteile, begehren die Nähe Gottes:
3 »Warum fasten wir, und du siehst es nicht, warum kasteien wir unsere Seelen, und du beachtest es nicht?« — Seht, an eurem Fastentag geht ihr euren Geschäften nach und treibt alle eure Arbeiter an!
4 Siehe, ihr fastet, um zu zanken und zu streiten und dreinzuschlagen mit gottloser Faust; ihr fastet gegenwärtig nicht so, dass euer Schreien in der Höhe Erhörung finden könnte.
5 Meint ihr, dass mir ein solches Fasten gefällt, wenn der Mensch sich selbst einen Tag lang quält und seinen Kopf hängen lässt wie ein Schilfhalm und sich in Sacktuch und Asche bettet? Willst du das ein Fasten nennen und einen dem Herrn wohlgefälligen Tag?
6 Ist nicht das ein Fasten, an dem ich Gefallen habe: dass ihr ungerechte Fesseln losmacht, dass ihr die Knoten des Joches löst, dass ihr die Unterdrückten freilasst und jegliches Joch zerbrecht?
7 Besteht es nicht darin, dass du dem Hungrigen dein Brot brichst und arme Verfolgte in dein Haus führst, dass, wenn du einen Entblößten siehst, du ihn bekleidest und dich deinem eigenen Fleisch nicht entziehst?
8 Dann wird dein Licht hervorbrechen wie die Morgenröte, und deine Heilung[a] wird rasche Fortschritte machen; deine Gerechtigkeit wird vor dir hergehen, und die Herrlichkeit des Herrn wird deine Nachhut sein!
9 Dann wirst du rufen, und der Herr wird antworten; du wirst schreien, und er wird sagen: Hier bin ich! Wenn du das Joch aus deiner Mitte hinwegtust, das [höhnische] Fingerzeigen und das unheilvolle Reden;
10 wenn du dem Hungrigen dein Herz darreichst und die verschmachtende Seele sättigst — dann wird dein Licht in der Finsternis aufgehen, und dein Dunkel wird sein wie der Mittag!

58 „Kiálts, jó hangosan!
Emeld föl hangodat, mint a trombita,
ne félj!
Mondd meg népemnek, miben vétkeztek,
Jákób népének mutasd meg bűneiket!
2 Hiszen ők naponta buzgón keresnek engem,
hogy megértsék útjaimat!
Hát nem olyan nép ez, amely igazságosan él,
és Istenének parancsait tiszteli?
Igazságos döntéseket kérnek tőlem,
és Isten közelségére vágyakoznak![a]
3 Ezt mondják nekem: »Miért böjtölünk,
ha nem veszed észre?
Miért gyötörjük magunkat,
ha nem törődsz vele?«
De én ezt felelem: Nézzétek!
Még a böjt napján is kedvteléseitek űzitek,
és dolgoztatjátok rabszolgáitokat!
4 Még a böjt idején is veszekedtek
és vitatkoztok,
gonosz indulattal támadtok egymásra,
majd ölre mentek!
Nem úgy böjtöltök,
hogy könyörgésetek hangja
följusson a magasba!
5 Azt hiszitek, ez az a böjt,
amelyet én szeretek?
Az a böjt, hogy az ember
éhezéssel gyötri magát?
Hogy fejét lehajtja, mint a káka,
zsákruhába öltözik,
és hamuban térdel?
Ezt nevezitek ti böjtnek,
az Örökkévaló kedves napjának?

6 Nem! Az a böjt, amelyet én szeretek,

Nyissátok ki a gonoszság bilincseit!
Engedjétek szabadon az elnyomottakat,
oldozzátok le igájuk köteleit!
Törjetek össze minden igát!
7 Kenyered oszd meg az éhezővel,
otthonodat a hajléktalan szegénnyel,
ha ruhátlant látsz, öltöztesd föl,
és testvéred elől ne zárkózz el!
8 Akkor felvirrad világosságod,
mint a hajnal fénye,
betegségedből hamar felépülsz,
és egészséged helyreáll,
az Igazságos[b] megy előtted, mint elővéd,
az Örökkévaló dicsősége pedig hátulról védelmez.
9 Akkor, ha segítségül hívod az Örökkévalót,
ő meghallja, és válaszol neked.
Mikor hozzá kiáltasz,
azt mondja: »Itt vagyok!«
Ha egymást le nem igázzátok,
ha másokra ujjal nem mutogatsz,
ha beszéddel sem támadsz senkire,
10 ha odaadod az éhezőnek, amit saját lelked kíván,
hogy a nyomorultak lelkét tápláld vele,
akkor felragyog világosságod a sötétben is,
még a homály is úgy ragyog, mint a déli verőfény.

58 Crie de toutes tes forces
et ne te retiens pas.
Fais retentir ta voix |comme le son du cor[a] !
A mon peuple dénonce sa révolte,
et aux descendants de Jacob leurs fautes.
2 Ils me recherchent chaque jour,
ils disent qu’ils se plaisent |à connaître mes voies,
comme ferait un peuple |qui accomplit ce qui est juste
et n’a pas délaissé |le droit que son Dieu a prescrit.
Ils exigent de moi |de justes jugements
et veulent être près de Dieu.
3 « Que nous sert de jeûner,
si tu ne le vois pas ?
Pourquoi nous humilier,
si tu n’y prends pas garde ? »
Au jour où vous jeûnez,
vous traitez vos affaires[b]
et vous exploitez tous vos ouvriers,
4 vous passez votre jeûne |en procès et querelles
et en donnant des coups de poing |avec méchanceté.
Ce n’est pas par des jeûnes, |comme ceux d’aujourd’hui,
que vous ferez entendre |vos prières là-haut !
5 Est-ce cela le jeûne |auquel je prends plaisir ?
Est-ce cela un jour |où l’homme s’humilie ?
S’agit-il de courber |la tête comme un jonc
et de vous étaler |sur le sac et la cendre ?
Pouvez-vous appeler |cela un jour de jeûne
que l’Eternel agrée ?
6 Le jeûne qui me plaît
est celui qui consiste |à détacher les liens |de la méchanceté,
à délier les courroies |de toute servitude,
à mettre en liberté |tous ceux que l’on opprime
et à briser |toute espèce de joug.
7 C’est partager ton pain |avec ceux qui ont faim,
et offrir l’hospitalité |aux pauvres sans abri,
c’est donner des habits |à celui qu’on voit nu,
ne pas te détourner |de ton prochain[c].
8 Alors, comme l’aurore, |jaillira ta lumière,
ton rétablissement |s’opérera bien vite.
Oui, alors la justice |marchera devant toi,
et la gloire de l’Eternel |sera l’arrière-garde[d].
9 Quand tu appelleras,
l’Eternel répondra ;
quand tu crieras à l’aide,
il dira : « Je suis là ! »
Si, du milieu de toi, |tu supprimes le joug de l’oppression,
les gestes menaçants
et les propos méchants,
10 si tu donnes ton pain[e]
à celui qui a faim
et si tu pourvois aux besoins |de l’opprimé,
la lumière luira pour toi |au milieu des ténèbres,
et ton obscurité |se changera pour toi |en clarté de midi,
