An Invitation to Abundant Life
55 Ho, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and you that have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
3 Incline your ear, and come to me;
listen, so that you may live.
I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
my steadfast, sure love for David.
4 See, I made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander for the peoples.
5 See, you shall call nations that you do not know,
and nations that do not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,
for he has glorified you.
6 Seek the Lord while he may be found,
call upon him while he is near;
7 let the wicked forsake their way,
and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
12 For you shall go out in joy,
and be led back in peace;
the mountains and the hills before you
shall burst into song,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;
instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;
and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial,
for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
The Covenant Extended to All Who Obey
56 Thus says the Lord:
Maintain justice, and do what is right,
for soon my salvation will come,
and my deliverance be revealed.
2 Happy is the mortal who does this,
the one who holds it fast,
who keeps the sabbath, not profaning it,
and refrains from doing any evil.
3 Do not let the foreigner joined to the Lord say,
“The Lord will surely separate me from his people”;
and do not let the eunuch say,
“I am just a dry tree.”
4 For thus says the Lord:
To the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths,
who choose the things that please me
and hold fast my covenant,
5 I will give, in my house and within my walls,
a monument and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.
6 And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,
and to be his servants,
all who keep the sabbath, and do not profane it,
and hold fast my covenant—
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain,
and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house shall be called a house of prayer
for all peoples.
8 Thus says the Lord God,
who gathers the outcasts of Israel,
I will gather others to them
besides those already gathered.[a]
The Corruption of Israel’s Rulers
9 All you wild animals,
all you wild animals in the forest, come to devour!
10 Israel’s[b] sentinels are blind,
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent dogs
that cannot bark;
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 The dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
The shepherds also have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
to their own gain, one and all.
12 “Come,” they say, “let us[c] get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink.
And tomorrow will be like today,
great beyond measure.”

55 (A)«O voi tutti che siete assetati, venite alle acque; voi che non avete denaro venite, comprate e mangiate! Venite, comprate senza denaro, senza pagare, vino e latte!
2 Perché spendete denaro per ciò che non è pane e il frutto delle vostre fatiche per ciò che non sazia? Ascoltatemi attentamente e mangerete ciò che è buono, gusterete cibi succulenti!
3 Porgete l’orecchio e venite a me; ascoltate e voi vivrete; io farò con voi un patto eterno, vi largirò le grazie stabili promesse a Davide[a].
4 Ecco, io l’ho dato come testimonio ai popoli, come principe e governatore dei popoli.
5 Ecco, tu chiamerai nazioni che non conosci, e nazioni che non ti conoscono accorreranno a te a motivo del Signore, del tuo Dio, del Santo d’Israele, perché egli ti avrà glorificato».

10 Come la pioggia e la neve scendono dal cielo e non vi ritornano senza aver annaffiato la terra, senza averla fecondata e fatta germogliare, affinché dia seme al seminatore e pane da mangiare[b],
11 così è della mia parola, uscita dalla mia bocca: essa non torna a me a vuoto, senza aver compiuto ciò che io voglio e condotto a buon fine ciò per cui l’ho mandata.
12 Sì, voi partirete con gioia e sarete ricondotti in pace; i monti e i colli proromperanno in grida di gioia davanti a voi, tutti gli alberi della campagna batteranno le mani.
13 Nel luogo del pruno si eleverà il cipresso, nel luogo del rovo crescerà il mirto; ciò sarà per il Signore un motivo di gloria, un monumento perenne che non sarà distrutto».
56 (C)Così parla il Signore: «Rispettate il diritto e fate ciò che è giusto; poiché la mia salvezza sta per venire, la mia giustizia sta per essere rivelata.
2 Beato l’uomo che fa così, il figlio dell’uomo che si attiene a questo, che osserva il sabato astenendosi dal profanarlo, che trattiene la mano dal fare qualsiasi male!»
3 Lo straniero che si è unito al Signore non dica: «Certo, il Signore mi escluderà dal suo popolo!» Né dica l’eunuco: «Ecco, io sono un albero secco!»
4 Infatti così parla il Signore circa gli eunuchi che osserveranno i miei sabati, che sceglieranno ciò che a me piace e si atterranno al mio patto:
5 «Io darò loro, nella mia casa e dentro le mie mura, un posto e un nome, che avranno più valore di figli e di figlie; darò loro un nome eterno, che non perirà più.
6 Anche gli stranieri che si saranno uniti al Signore per servirlo, per amare il nome del Signore, per essere suoi servi, tutti quelli che osserveranno il sabato astenendosi dal profanarlo e si atterranno al mio patto,
7 io li condurrò sul mio monte santo e li rallegrerò nella mia casa di preghiera; i loro olocausti e i loro sacrifici saranno graditi sul mio altare, perché la mia casa sarà chiamata una casa di preghiera per tutti i popoli[c]».
8 Il Signore, Dio, che raccoglie gli esuli d’Israele, dice: «Io ne raccoglierò intorno a lui anche degli altri, oltre a quelli dei suoi che sono già raccolti».

10 I guardiani d’Israele sono tutti ciechi, senza intelligenza; sono tutti cani muti, incapaci di abbaiare; sognano, stanno sdraiati, amano sonnecchiare.
11 Sono cani ingordi, che non sanno cosa sia l’essere sazi; sono pastori che non capiscono nulla; sono tutti vòlti alla propria via, ognuno mira al proprio interesse, dal primo all’ultimo.
12 «Venite», dicono, «io andrò a cercare del vino e c’inebrieremo di bevande forti! Il giorno di domani sarà come questo, anzi sarà più grandioso ancora!»

Das Gnadenangebot Gottes
55 Wohlan, ihr Durstigen alle, kommt her zum Wasser; und die ihr kein Geld habt, kommt her, kauft und esst! Kommt her und kauft ohne Geld und umsonst Wein und Milch!
2 Warum wiegt ihr Geld ab[a] für das, was kein Brot ist, und euren Arbeitslohn für das, was nicht sättigt? Hört doch auf mich, so sollt ihr Gutes essen, und eure Seele soll sich laben an fetter Speise!
3 Neigt eure Ohren und kommt her zu mir; hört, so wird eure Seele leben! Denn ich will euch einen ewigen Bund gewähren: die Gnadengüter Davids, die zuverlässig sind.[b]
4 Siehe, ich habe ihn zum Zeugen für Völkerschaften bestimmt, zum Fürsten und Gebieter von Völkern.
5 Siehe, du wirst ein Volk[c] berufen, das du nicht kennst, und ein Volk, das dich nicht kannte, wird dir zulaufen wegen des Herrn, deines Gottes, und um des Heiligen Israels willen, weil er dich herrlich gemacht hat.
6 Sucht den Herrn, solange er zu finden ist; ruft ihn an, während er nahe ist!
7 Der Gottlose verlasse seinen Weg und der Übeltäter seine Gedanken; und er kehre um zu dem Herrn, so wird er sich über ihn erbarmen, und zu unserem Gott, denn bei ihm ist viel Vergebung.
8 Denn meine Gedanken sind nicht eure Gedanken, und eure Wege sind nicht meine Wege, spricht der Herr;
9 sondern so hoch der Himmel über der Erde ist, so viel höher sind meine Wege als eure Wege und meine Gedanken als eure Gedanken.
10 Denn gleichwie der Regen und der Schnee vom Himmel fällt und nicht wieder dahin zurückkehrt, bis er die Erde getränkt und befruchtet und zum Grünen gebracht hat und dem Sämann Samen gegeben hat und Brot dem, der isst —
11 genau so soll auch mein Wort sein, das aus meinem Mund hervorgeht: Es wird nicht leer zu mir zurückkehren, sondern es wird ausrichten, was mir gefällt, und durchführen, wozu ich es gesandt habe!
12 Denn ihr werdet mit Freuden ausziehen und in Frieden geleitet werden; die Berge und Hügel sollen vor euch in Jubel ausbrechen und alle Bäume des Feldes in die Hände klatschen.
13 Statt der Dornen werden Zypressen wachsen und statt der Hecken Myrten; und das wird dem Herrn zum Ruhm gereichen, zu einem ewigen Zeichen, das nicht vergehen wird.
Ermahnung an Israel, die Gebote zu halten. Auch der Fremdling darf Gott nahen
56 So spricht der Herr: Bewahrt das Recht und übt Gerechtigkeit; denn mein Heil ist nahe, um herbeizukommen, und meine Gerechtigkeit, um geoffenbart zu werden.
2 Wohl dem Menschen, der dies tut, und dem Menschenkind, das daran festhält: der den Sabbat hält, um ihn nicht zu entweihen, und seine Hand davor bewahrt, irgendetwas Böses zu tun!
3 Und der Fremdling, der sich dem Herrn angeschlossen hat, soll nicht sagen: Der Herr wird mich gewiss von seinem Volk ausschließen! Und der Verschnittene soll nicht sagen: Siehe, ich bin ein dürrer Baum![d]
4 Denn so spricht der Herr: Den Verschnittenen, die meine Sabbate halten und erwählen, was mir gefällt, und an meinem Bund festhalten,
5 denen will ich in meinem Haus und in meinen Mauern einen Platz und einen Namen geben, der besser ist als Söhne und Töchter; ich will ihnen einen ewigen Namen geben, der nicht ausgerottet werden soll.
6 Und die Fremdlinge, die sich dem Herrn anschließen, um ihm zu dienen und den Namen des Herrn zu lieben [und] um seine Knechte zu sein, und alle, die darauf achten, den Sabbat nicht zu entheiligen, und die an meinem Bund festhalten,
7 die will ich zu meinem heiligen Berg führen und sie in meinem Bethaus erfreuen; ihre Brandopfer und Schlachtopfer sollen wohlgefällig sein auf meinem Altar; denn mein Haus soll ein Bethaus für alle Völker genannt werden.
8 Gott, der Herr, der die Verstoßenen Israels sammelt, spricht: Ich will noch mehr zu ihm sammeln, zu seinen Gesammelten!

11 Doch sie sind auch gierige Hunde, die nicht wissen, wann sie genug haben; und sie, die Hirten, verstehen nicht aufzupassen; sie alle wenden sich auf ihren eigenen Weg, jeder sieht auf seinen Gewinn, ohne Ausnahme.
12 »Kommt her«, sagen sie, »ich will Wein holen, lasst uns Rauschtrank saufen, und morgen soll es gehen wie heute, ja noch viel großartiger!«

lakjatok jól, egyetek, amennyi kell!
Jöjjetek mind,
vegyetek tőlem búzát pénz nélkül,
vegyétek ingyen a bort és a tejet!
2 Miért adnátok pénzt azért,
ami nem kenyér?
Miért dolgoznátok azért,
ami ki nem elégíthet?
Hallgassatok, hallgassatok rám!
Azt egyétek, ami jó,
hogy lelketek megelégedjen!
3 Forduljatok felém,
jöjjetek hozzám,
hallgassatok rám,
hogy éljetek!
Örök szövetséget kötök veletek,

„Őrizzétek meg a jogosságot,
és cselekedjetek igazságosan,
mert szabadításom hamarosan megérkezik,
és rövidesen nyilvánvalóvá lesz,
mindaz a jó, amit teszek!
2 Boldog és áldott, aki így cselekszik,
és ehhez ragaszkodik:
aki megszenteli a szombat ünnepét,
és vigyáz, hogy ne törje meg,
s aki óvakodik attól, hogy rosszat tegyen.”
3 Ne mondja az idegen, aki az Örökkévalóhoz csatlakozott:
„Nem fogad be engem népe közé az Örökkévaló!”

„Látjátok, én már terméketlen, kiszáradt fa vagyok!”
4 Mert ezt mondja az Örökkévaló:
„Azoknak a kasztráltaknak,

3 L’étranger qui s’attache |à l’Eternel |ne devra pas se dire :
« L’Eternel m’exclura |sûrement de son peuple »,
et l’eunuque non plus |n’aura pas à penser :
« Je suis un arbre sec ! »
4 Car voici ce que l’Eternel déclare :
A ceux qui sont eunuques, |qui respecteront les sabbats |que j’ai prescrits,
qui choisiront de faire |ce qui m’est agréable,
et qui s’attacheront |à mon alliance,
5 je réserverai |dans ma Maison
et dans mes murs |une stèle et un nom
qui vaudront mieux pour eux |que des fils et des filles ;
je leur accorderai |un nom impérissable

6 Et les étrangers qui s’attacheront
à l’Eternel pour le servir,
et pour l’aimer
et pour être ses serviteurs,
qui respecteront le sabbat
et ne le profaneront pas,
et qui s’attacheront |à mon alliance,
7 je les ferai venir |à ma montagne sainte
et je les réjouirai |au Temple où l’on me prie,

offerts sur mon autel.

10 Les sentinelles d’Israël |sont toutes des aveugles :
ce sont des ignorants,
tous sont des chiens muets
qui ne peuvent pas aboyer.
Rêvassant, allongés,
ils aiment somnoler …
11 Mais ces chiens sont avides
et jamais rassasiés,
et ce sont des bergers
qui ne comprennent rien.
Ils suivent chacun son chemin
à la poursuite de ses gains.
12 « Venez, je vais chercher du vin,
et nous boirons jusqu’à l’ivresse |des boissons fortes, disent-ils.
Demain, la fête continue |comme aujourd’hui :
il reste du surplus |en abondance. »
