8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the (D)rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it produce and sprout,
And providing (E)seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 So will My (F)word be which goes out of My mouth;
It will (G)not return to Me empty,
Without (H)accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.

13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

13 And behold, on that very day (A)two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, which was [a]sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But (B)their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You possibly the only one living near Jerusalem [b]who does not know about the things that happened here in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What sort of things?” And they said to Him, “Those about (C)Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a (D)prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our (E)rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we [c]were hoping that it was He who was going to (F)redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us left us bewildered. (G)When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 And then He said to them, “[d]You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that (H)the prophets have spoken! 26 (I)Was it not necessary for the [e]Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?” 27 Then beginning [f]with (J)Moses and [g]with all the (K)Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.
28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (L)He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [h]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (M)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their (N)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [i]their sight. 32 They said to one another, “[j]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (O)was [k]explaining the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (P)found the eleven gathered together and (Q)those who were with them, 34 saying, “(R)The Lord has really risen and (S)has appeared to Simon!” 35 They began to relate [l]their experiences on the road, and how (T)He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.
