The Compassion of the Lord

55 (A)“Come, everyone who thirsts,
    come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
    (B)come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without price.
(C)Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
    and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
    and delight yourselves in rich food.
Incline your ear, and come to me;
    (D)hear, that your soul may live;
(E)and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
    (F)my steadfast, sure love for (G)David.
(H)Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,
    (I)a leader and commander for the peoples.
(J)Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know,
    and (K)a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,
    (L)for he has glorified you.

(M)“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
(N)For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Look out for (A)the dogs, look out for (B)the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh. For (C)we are the circumcision, (D)who worship (E)by the Spirit of God[a] and (F)glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— (G)though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: (H)circumcised on the eighth day, (I)of the people of Israel, (J)of the tribe of Benjamin, (K)a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, (L)a Pharisee; (M)as to zeal, (N)a persecutor of the church; (O)as to righteousness under the law,[b] blameless. But (P)whatever gain I had, (Q)I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of (R)the surpassing worth of (S)knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I (T)have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having (U)a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but (V)that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 (W)that I may know him and (X)the power of his resurrection, and (Y)may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may (Z)attain the resurrection from the dead.

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “The kingdom of heaven (A)is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy (B)he goes and sells all that he has and (C)buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding (D)one pearl of great value, (E)went and sold all that he had and (F)bought it.
