Isaiah 55:1-11

The Compassion of the Lord

55 ^(A)“Come, everyone who thirsts,
    come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
    ^(B)come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without price.
²^(C)Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
    and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
    and delight yourselves in rich food.
³Incline your ear, and come to me;
    ^(D)hear, that your soul may live;
^(E)and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
    ^(F)my steadfast, sure love for ^(G)David.
⁴^(H)Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,
    ^(I)a leader and commander for the peoples.
⁵^(J)Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know,
    and ^(K)a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,
    ^(L)for he has glorified you.

⁶^(M)“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call upon him while he is near;
⁷let the wicked forsake his way,
    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
⁸For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
⁹^(N)For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

¹⁰^(O)“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
    and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
    ^(P)giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
¹¹so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
but ^(Q)it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Tremble at the Presence of the Lord

114 When ^(A)Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from ^(B)a people of strange language,
²Judah became his ^(C)sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.

³^(D)The sea looked and fled;
^(E)Jordan turned back.
⁴^(F)The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.

⁵What ^(G)ails you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
⁶O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?

⁷^(H)Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
⁸who turns ^(I)the rock into ^(J)a pool of water,
^(K)the flint into a spring of water.

Romans 6:3-11

³Do you not know that all of us ^(A)who have been baptized ^(B)into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴We were ^(C)buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as ^(D)Christ was raised from the dead by ^(E)the glory of the Father, we too might walk in ^(F)newness of life.

⁵For ^(G)if we have been united with him in ^(H)a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ⁶We know that ^(I)our old self^[a] ^(J)was crucified with him in order that ^(K)the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. ⁷For ^(L)one who has died ^(M)has been set free^[b] from sin. ⁸Now ^(N)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. ⁹We know that ^(O)Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; ^(P)death no longer has dominion over him. ¹⁰For the death he died he died to sin, ^(Q)once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. ¹¹So you also must consider yourselves ^(R)dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

16 ^(A)^(B)When the Sabbath was past, ^(C)Mary Magdalene, ^(D)Mary the mother of James, and ^(E)Salome ^(F)bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. ²And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. ³And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away ^(G)the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” ⁴And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—^(H)it was very large. ⁵And ^(I)entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, ^(J)dressed in ^(K)a white robe, and ^(L)they were alarmed. ⁶And he said to them, ^(M)“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. ⁷But go, tell his disciples and Peter that ^(N)he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, ^(O)just as he told you.” ⁸And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
