54 “Sing, barren, you who didn’t give birth!
Break out into singing, and cry aloud, you who didn’t travail with child!
For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife,” says Yahweh.
2 “Enlarge the place of your tent,
and let them stretch out the curtains of your habitations;
don’t spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.
3 For you will spread out on the right hand and on the left;
and your offspring will possess the nations
and settle in desolate cities.
4 “Don’t be afraid, for you will not be ashamed.
Don’t be confounded, for you will not be disappointed.
For you will forget the shame of your youth.
You will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more.
5 For your Maker is your husband; Yahweh of Armies is his name.
The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer.
He will be called the God of the whole earth.
6 For Yahweh has called you as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit,
even a wife of youth, when she is cast off,” says your God.
7 “For a small moment I have forsaken you,
but I will gather you with great mercies.
8 In overflowing wrath I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting loving kindness I will have mercy on you,” says Yahweh your Redeemer.
9 “For this is like the waters of Noah to me;
for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah will no more go over the earth,
so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
10 For the mountains may depart,
and the hills be removed,
but my loving kindness will not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace will not be removed,”
says Yahweh who has mercy on you.
11 “You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted,
behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors,
and lay your foundations with sapphires.
12 I will make your pinnacles of rubies,
your gates of sparkling jewels,
and all your walls of precious stones.
13 All your children will be taught by Yahweh,
and your children’s peace will be great.
14 You will be established in righteousness.
You will be far from oppression,
for you will not be afraid,
and far from terror,
for it shall not come near you.
15 Behold, they may gather together, but not by me.
Whoever gathers together against you will fall because of you.
16 “Behold, I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame,
and forges a weapon for his work;
and I have created the destroyer to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against you will prevail;
and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants,
and their righteousness is of me,” says Yahweh.

54 «Giubila, o sterile, che non partorivi, prorompi in alte grida di gioia, tu che non provavi doglie di parto! Poiché i figli della desolata saranno piú numerosi dei figli della maritata, dice l'Eterno.
2 Allarga il luogo della tua tenda e i teli delle tue dimore si distendino senza risparmio; allunga le tue corde e rinforza i tuoi piuoli,
3 perché ti espanderai a destra e a sinistra; la tua discendenza possederà le nazioni e popolerà le città deserte.
4 Non temere, perché non sarai confusa; non aver vergogna, perché non dovrai arrossire; dimenticherai anzi la vergogna della tua giovinezza e non ricorderai piú il disonore della tua vedovanza.
5 Poiché il tuo creatore è il tuo sposo; il suo nome è l'Eterno degli eserciti, il tuo Redentore è il Santo d'Israele, chiamato DIO di tutta la terra.
6 Poiché l'Eterno ti ha chiamato come una donna abbandonata e afflitta nel suo spirito, come la sposa della giovinezza che è stata ripudiata, dice il tuo DIO.
7 Ti ho abbandonata per un breve istante, ma con immensa compassione ti radunerò.
8 In uno scoppio d'ira ti ho nascosto per un momento la mia faccia, ma con un amore eterno avrò compassione di te, dice l'Eterno, il tuo Redentore.
9 Per me questo infatti sarà come le acque di Noè; come giurai che le acque di Noè non avrebbero piú coperto la terra, cosí giuro di non adirarmi piú contro di te e di non minacciarti piú.
10 Anche se i monti si spostassero e i colli fossero rimossi, il mio amore non si allontanerà da te né il mio patto di pace sarà rimosso, dice l'Eterno, che ha compassione di te.
11 O afflitta, sbattuta dalla tempesta, sconsolata, ecco, io incastonerò le tue pietre nell'antimonio e ti fonderò sugli zaffiri.
12 Farò i tuoi merli di rubini, le tue porte di carbonchio e tutto il tuo recinto di pietre preziose.
13 Tutti i tuoi figli saranno ammaestrati dall'Eterno, e grande sarà la pace dei tuoi figli.
14 Tu sarai stabilita fermamente nella giustizia; sarai lontana dall'oppressione perché non dovrai piú temere, e dal terrore, perché non si avvicinerà piú a te.
15 Ecco, potranno anche radunarsi contro di te, ma non sarà da parte mia. Chiunque si radunerà contro di te, cadrà davanti a te.
16 Ecco, io ho creato il fabbro che soffia sulle braci nel fuoco e ne trae uno strumento per il suo lavoro, e ho pure creato il devastatore per distruggere.
17 Nessun'arma fabbricata contro di te avrà successo, e ogni lingua che si alzerà in giudizio contro di te, la condannerai. Questa è l'eredità dei servi dell'Eterno, e la loro giustizia viene da me», dice l'Eterno.

54 “Sing, barren woman,(A)
you who never bore a child;
burst into song, shout for joy,(B)
you who were never in labor;(C)
because more are the children(D) of the desolate(E) woman
than of her who has a husband,(F)”
says the Lord.
2 “Enlarge the place of your tent,(G)
stretch your tent curtains wide,
do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
strengthen your stakes.(H)
3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your descendants(I) will dispossess nations(J)
and settle in their desolate(K) cities.
4 “Do not be afraid;(L) you will not be put to shame.(M)
Do not fear disgrace;(N) you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth(O)
and remember no more the reproach(P) of your widowhood.(Q)
5 For your Maker(R) is your husband(S)—
the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One(T) of Israel is your Redeemer;(U)
he is called the God of all the earth.(V)
6 The Lord will call you back(W)
as if you were a wife deserted(X) and distressed in spirit—
a wife who married young,(Y)
only to be rejected,” says your God.
7 “For a brief moment(Z) I abandoned(AA) you,
but with deep compassion(AB) I will bring you back.(AC)
8 In a surge of anger(AD)
I hid(AE) my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness(AF)
I will have compassion(AG) on you,”
says the Lord your Redeemer.(AH)
9 “To me this is like the days of Noah,
when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.(AI)
So now I have sworn(AJ) not to be angry(AK) with you,
never to rebuke(AL) you again.
10 Though the mountains be shaken(AM)
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love(AN) for you will not be shaken(AO)
nor my covenant(AP) of peace(AQ) be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion(AR) on you.
11 “Afflicted(AS) city, lashed by storms(AT) and not comforted,(AU)
I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise,[a](AV)
your foundations(AW) with lapis lazuli.(AX)
12 I will make your battlements of rubies,
your gates(AY) of sparkling jewels,
and all your walls of precious stones.
13 All your children will be taught by the Lord,(AZ)
and great will be their peace.(BA)
14 In righteousness(BB) you will be established:(BC)
Tyranny(BD) will be far from you;
you will have nothing to fear.(BE)
Terror(BF) will be far removed;
it will not come near you.
15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever attacks you will surrender(BG) to you.
16 “See, it is I who created the blacksmith(BH)
who fans the coals into flame
and forges a weapon(BI) fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer(BJ) to wreak havoc;
17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,(BK)
and you will refute(BL) every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants(BM) of the Lord,
and this is their vindication(BN) from me,”
declares the Lord.
