“Fear not, for you will (A)not be put to shame;
And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;
But you will forget the (B)shame of your youth,
And no longer remember the (C)disgrace of your widowhood.
For your (D)husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the Lord of armies;
And your (E)Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the (F)God of all the earth.
For the Lord has called you,
Like a wife (G)forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Even like a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,”
Says your God.
[a]For a (H)brief moment I abandoned you,
But with great compassion I will (I)gather you.
In an [b](J)outburst of anger
I hid My face from you for a moment,
But with everlasting (K)favor I will (L)have compassion on you,”
Says the Lord your (M)Redeemer.

“For [c]this is like the days of Noah to Me,
When I swore that the waters of Noah
Would (N)not [d]flood the earth again;
So I have sworn that I will (O)not be angry with you
Nor rebuke you.
10 For the (P)mountains may be removed and the hills may shake,
But My [e]favor will not be removed from you,
Nor will My (Q)covenant of peace be shaken,”
Says (R)the Lord who has compassion on you.

11 (S)Afflicted one, storm-tossed, and (T)not comforted,
Behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
And I will (U)lay your foundations with [f](V)sapphires.
12 Moreover, I will make your battlements of [g]rubies,
And your gates of [h]crystal,
And your entire [i]wall of precious stones.
13 (W)All your sons will be [j]taught by the Lord;
And the well-being of your sons will be (X)great.
14 In (Y)righteousness you will be established;
You will be far from (Z)oppression, for you will (AA)not fear;
And from (AB)terror, for it will not come near you.
15 If anyone fiercely attacks you, it will not be from Me.
(AC)Whoever attacks you will fall because of you.
16 Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals
And produces a weapon for its work;
And I have created the destroyer to inflict ruin.
17 (AD)No weapon that is formed against you will succeed;
And you will condemn (AE)every tongue that [k]accuses you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their (AF)vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.

16 Therefore we (A)do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our (B)inner person is (C)being renewed day by day. 17 For our momentary, (D)light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we (E)look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The Temporal and Eternal

For we know that if our [a](F)earthly (G)tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house (H)not made by hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed, in this tent we (I)groan, longing to be (J)clothed with our [b]dwelling from heaven, since in fact after putting it on, we will not be found naked. For indeed, we who are in this tent (K)groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be (L)clothed, so that what is (M)mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who (N)gave us the Spirit as a [c]pledge.

Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that (O)while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for (P)we walk by faith, not by [d]sight— but we are of good courage and (Q)prefer rather to be absent from the body and (R)to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be (S)pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before (T)the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive compensation for [e]his deeds done through the body, in accordance with what he has done, whether good or bad.
