13 (A)All your children (B)shall be taught by the Lord,
    (C)and great shall be the peace of your children.
14 In righteousness you shall be established;
    you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
    and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15 (D)If anyone stirs up strife,
    it is not from me;
whoever stirs up strife with you
    shall fall because of you.
16 Behold, I have created the smith
    who blows the fire of coals
    and produces a weapon for its purpose.
I have also created the ravager to destroy;
17     no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
    and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
    (E)and their vindication[a] from me, declares the Lord.”

The Compassion of the Lord

55 (F)“Come, everyone who thirsts,
    come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
    (G)come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without price.
(H)Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
    and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
    and delight yourselves in rich food.
Incline your ear, and come to me;
    (I)hear, that your soul may live;
(J)and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
    (K)my steadfast, sure love for (L)David.
(M)Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,
    (N)a leader and commander for the peoples.
(O)Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know,
    and (P)a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,
    (Q)for he has glorified you.

(R)“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
    and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
(S)For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 (T)“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
    and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
    (U)giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
but (V)it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

12 (W)“For you shall go out in joy
    and be led forth in peace;
(X)the mountains and the hills before you
    shall break forth into singing,
    and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 (Y)Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;
    instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;
and it shall make a name for the Lord,
    an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

Salvation for Foreigners

56 Thus says the Lord:
“Keep justice, and do righteousness,
(Z)for soon my salvation will come,
    and my righteousness be revealed.
Blessed is the man who does this,
    and the son of man who holds it fast,
(AA)who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it,
    and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

Let not (AB)the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say,
    “The Lord will surely separate me from his people”;
and let not the eunuch say,
    “Behold, I am (AC)a dry tree.”
For thus says the Lord:
“To the eunuchs (AD)who keep my Sabbaths,
    who choose the things that please me
    and hold fast my covenant,
(AE)I will give in my house and within my walls
    a (AF)monument and a name
    better than sons and daughters;
(AG)I will give them an everlasting name
    that shall not be cut off.

“And (AH)the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
    to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,
    and to be his servants,
everyone (AI)who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
    and holds fast my covenant—
(AJ)these I will bring to (AK)my holy mountain,
    and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
(AL)their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
    will be accepted on my altar;
for (AM)my house shall be called a house of prayer
    for all peoples.”
The Lord God,
    (AN)who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares,
(AO)“I will gather yet others to him
    besides those already gathered.”

Israel's Irresponsible Leaders

(AP)All you beasts of the field, come to devour—
    all you beasts in the forest.
10 (AQ)His watchmen are blind;
    they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent (AR)dogs;
    they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
    loving to slumber.
11 (AS)The dogs have a mighty appetite;
    they never have enough.
But (AT)they are shepherds who have no understanding;
    they have all turned to their own way,
    (AU)each to his own gain, one and all.
