⁴ As you come to him, a living stone ^(A)rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, ^5 (B)you yourselves like living stones are being built up as ^(C)a spiritual house, to be ^(D)a holy priesthood, ^(E)to offer spiritual sacrifices ^(F)acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ For it stands in Scripture:

^22 (A)strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them ^(B)to continue in ^(C)the faith, and saying that ^(D)through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

² So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of ^(A)onyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones and marble.

³³ I have said these things to you, that ^(A)in me you may have peace. ^(B)In the world you will have ^(C)tribulation. But ^(D)take heart; ^(E)I have overcome the world.”

¹⁸ The wall was built of ^(A)jasper, while the city was pure gold, like ^(B)clear glass. ^19 (C)The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, ²⁰ the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. ²¹ And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and ^(D)the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

¹³ And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued ^(A)the woman who had given birth to the male child. ¹⁴ But the woman was given the two ^(B)wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent ^(C)into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished ^(D)for a time, and times, and half a time. ¹⁵ The serpent poured water ^(E)like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. ¹⁶ But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. ¹⁷ Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off ^(F)to make war on the rest of ^(G)her offspring, ^(H)on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to ^(I)the testimony of Jesus. And he stood^[a] on the sand of the sea.

The Glory of the Lord Leaves the Temple

10 Then I looked, and behold, ^(A)on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something ^(B)like a sapphire,^[a] in appearance like a throne.
