The Future Glory of Zion

54 “Sing, barren woman,^(A)
    you who never bore a child;
burst into song, shout for joy,^(B)
    you who were never in labor;^(C)
because more are the children^(D) of the desolate^(E) woman
    than of her who has a husband,^(F)”
says the Lord.
²“Enlarge the place of your tent,^(G)
    stretch your tent curtains wide,
    do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
    strengthen your stakes.^(H)
³For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
    your descendants^(I) will dispossess nations^(J)
    and settle in their desolate^(K) cities.

⁴“Do not be afraid;^(L) you will not be put to shame.^(M)
    Do not fear disgrace;^(N) you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth^(O)
    and remember no more the reproach^(P) of your widowhood.^(Q)
⁵For your Maker^(R) is your husband^(S)—
    the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One^(T) of Israel is your Redeemer;^(U)
    he is called the God of all the earth.^(V)
⁶The Lord will call you back^(W)
    as if you were a wife deserted^(X) and distressed in spirit—
a wife who married young,^(Y)
    only to be rejected,” says your God.
⁷“For a brief moment^(Z) I abandoned^(AA) you,
    but with deep compassion^(AB) I will bring you back.^(AC)

Praise to God for a Living Hope

³Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!^(M) In his great mercy^(N) he has given us new birth^(O) into a living hope^(P) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,^(Q) ⁴and into an inheritance^(R) that can never perish, spoil or fade.^(S) This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,^(T) ⁵who through faith are shielded by God’s power^(U) until the coming of the salvation^(V) that is ready to be revealed^(W) in the last time. ⁶In all this you greatly rejoice,^(X) though now for a little while^(Y) you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.^(Z) ⁷These have come so that the proven genuineness^(AA) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire^(AB)—may result in praise, glory and honor^(AC) when Jesus Christ is revealed.^(AD) ⁸Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him^(AE) and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, ⁹for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.^(AF)

The Seventh Trumpet

¹⁵The seventh angel sounded his trumpet,^(A) and there were loud voices^(B) in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,^(C)
and he will reign for ever and ever.”^(D)

¹⁶And the twenty-four elders,^(E) who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces^(F) and worshiped God, ¹⁷saying:

“We give thanks^(G) to you, Lord God Almighty,^(H)
    the One who is and who was,^(I)
because you have taken your great power
    and have begun to reign.^(J)
¹⁸The nations were angry,^(K)
    and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,^(L)
    and for rewarding your servants the prophets^(M)
and your people who revere your name,
    both great and small^(N)—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

¹⁹Then God’s temple^(O) in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.^(P) And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder,^(Q) an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.^(R)
